Clanrat
Yah either way I dont think I ever saw WYSWYG in the rule book for fantasy...
It even mentioned somwhere in the 7th one about standard bearers having weps even if not on the model...

So based on that I would model my units half and half and just keep whatever wep yer not using on the back ranks of models to avoid confusion and so they are removed as casualties 1st
!!!!!WANTED!!!!!

6TH Ed Clanrats... you know, the good ol Monkey rats..
Painted or not, Assembled or not...

PM me and we can work somthing out.

Generally in old days they straped the shield to your arm so you couldn't drop it. Having your shield when you need it the most was usually a case of life and death. And this how I always imagined standards and BSB would cope.

(from what I have seen)The only shields that were really strap shields were the teardrops and heaters used by knights for the most part. Most of the rest of them were punch shields that were held by a single handle near the middle of the shield. Thats also why a lot of shields had a metal dome on them, to protect your hand better than a sheet of plywood.

Most movies seem to ignore this point but GW seems to have done a good job with the clanrat shields, they look like punch shields to me.
/history lesson

I think shields could be held in one hand while the banner is in the other and then just hit people with the stick.

As someone who has carried a fair few battle standards I think using a shield with one would be difficult. Plus there is no mention of using a shield in the field manual.
