So instead of thread-jacking Mr. Bobtailmaneater, I figured I'd start my own on my ideas for my army. I wanted to have a Skaven army with a unique feel, while at the same time not be too limited in troop choices for strategic diversity. I like Eshin, but the SoC list is defunct and I'm not a big fan of trying to take all nightrunners and such. I'd like to have an Eshin feel while at the same time borrowing from all the other major clans, all the while keeping an Eshin-theme. I've been thinking about this a lot over the past few days about color schemes and conversion opportunities and I'll use this thread to keep track of my ideas and hopefully get some suggestions from the community as a whole.

The idea I had recently was to do a Cathay-themed army with Eshin leadership and have everyone painted in dark purples, reds, blacks and the like. I really like the color scheme and basing on these guys:
http://coolminiornot.com/140155

and I think it would work well for an Eshin army. I could even incorporate tattoos on my rat ogres like that. ;)

Taking it a step further, I could paint armor in reds like samurai and add back banners like Cathay troops to give a unified Eshin-y feel to the army, especially those troops like clanrats and stormvermin who would need something to make them fit in better. My idea for my plague monks would be dark purple robes and some sort of slight conversion work to make them unique. My jezzails would be similar to my previous rendition found in this topic:
http://underempire.net/index.php?showtopic=577&hl=

More to add later as I think of it! Feedback welcome!

a cathay-themed rat army :D
sounds great!
i think the second idea would be coolest. if you were doing this would you make greenstuff helmets/weapons for them so they would look more cathayan?

Yep! That's the plan, at least. I may give my slaves all round rice farmer hats, but I'll have to do a test model to see how it looks. My stormvermin will likely get the back banners and samurai helmets.

I suppose the samurai-inspired red armor is more Nipponese (Japanese) than Cathayan (Chinese), but I may mix and match for effect and worry less about historical or fluff accuracy. I can't for the life of me find many examples of Cathayan-converted models, so any links to pics that you all can provide would be most helpful.

I've been stealing a lot of ideas from this army blog:

I think I've found a better pavise version for my jezzails, check it out!

I really like doomwheels for both their stats and their model, but I'm not sure how one or two would look in an Eshin army. Any ideas on conversions?

Same issue with rat ogres, though they'd probably look okay in Eshin robes and have tattoos and such.

A Screaming Bell or Plague Furnace seem difficult to justify style and fluff-wise, though a lot of people consider them necessary. Any thoughts?

P.S. Oh my god, I have to use this as a character mount!

Now THAT, is a rat swarm :o

There's a clan eshin rat ogre for mordheim, but I can't work out what's so eshiny about it for the life of me. Still, it may be worth a look: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1120029

@spaco - love the giant rats mount, has it got stats (is it GW made) or will you make some up for it?

@Matic - the RO is eshin-y because it has a skull necklace - no one bothered much with it. but if anyone wanted a eshin RO then - if you didn't want to make your own - the best way would maybe be to get a Bone Ripper and just paint it with lots of black, maybe add a few skulls to it...

The rat swarm was modeled by a player named Toads and cast by Troll Forged Miniatures to be shared with others. I think it would be a good substitute for either a war litter or a great pox rat. Alternatively, it would make a great cosmetic base for a master moulder or even rat swarms with a little bulking up. I could imagine them bursting out of a well or a sewer pipe. My current plan is to put the Queek Headtaker model on top of it, use it as a Warlord on War Litter and replace the skeleton back banner with a more Nipponese cloth back banner-looking one.

I personally hate that Eshin rat ogre and I'm waiting until I see what the new Isle of Blood models look like before I decide which to convert.

yeah i see what you mean, for some reason GW put a lot more effort into a skyre ogre than an eshin one. :(
anyway, i hope you can find some good models. :D

Its taken me a fair while to find this thread http://underempire.net/ar/t10888.htm but hopefully its of help, they definately seem to fit in with the ideas you mentioned.

Thanks much for the link! I emailed him to see if he had finished the unit.

I just had an interesting idea for a conversion I thought I'd share and get some feedback on. I don't really care for abominations for the most part and couldn't imagine one fitting well in an Eshin army, but I just imagined a Trojan Rat-like like contraption filled with assassins being pushed around and terrorizing the countryside. I'm not sure how I would model it, but it seems like an interesting idea!

Wow, a Trojan Rat is an awesome idea! Just build a rat like creature out of wooden sticks. I might even steal the idea if you don't mind. :)

Please do! It's going to be months before I'm able to put one together, so I wouldn't mind seeing what others come up with for ideas. What would you build yours out of? I'm considering maybe an old Screaming Bell as the base with added plasticard to fill out the shape.

Haha, sorry to disappoint! Although, if you have any ideas for one, I'm all ears. I can't really think of any besides "giant rat god ninja" or "giant rat god samurai", and those are pretty much guaranteed scratch-builds. I'm a pretty good converter when it comes to modifying existing things to my needs, but have little to no experience in the modelling department.

I'm pretty sure the Vermin Lord would get very little action, but if I did decide to take that model as a joke, I have a pretty good idea for some "mutant turtle" rat ogres. :P

In other news, I'm seriously considering using plastic sheeting ala Fantasyfreak, as it would be a great look for an infiltrating Eshin army. I might try it out on a Mordheim warband first, though, to see the effect.

I felt the same way. Not sure if you have seen this but awhile back Warlord Twitch came up with a great conversion that gets it one giant step closer to being more Eshin.
