It was the Deathmaster - he doesn't seem to get Poisoned attacks, for some obscure, insane reason that only makes sense in the warped, demented mind of the book's writer.

It was a big show and no oomph - only 3 hits and none of them wounded.  Seriously unlucky, followed by being outnumbered and booking it with a bad leadership roll.

the skaven faq says eshin heroes all have poison. (since like you said, the deathmaster not having poison was an oversight)

I have the March FAQ here, but I can't seem to find the entry...

You can not find it because it does not exist. Special characters are reserved for breaking the balance of the game anyways!

I think you're mistaking this FAQ;

Quote:

Q. Gutter Runners can be upgraded to have
Poisoned Attacks, and Assassins have this rule by
default. Is this the Poisoned Attacks as described in
the Scavenge Pile (page 33), or the Poisoned
Attacks as described in the special rules of the
rulebook? In other words, do the models get
poisoned throwing stars and/or slings?

A. Assassins, and Gutter Runners that upgrade to
Poisoned Attacks, use the normal rules (the
Scavenge-pile only refers to non-Eshin characters) –
that is, Assassins and Gutter Runners have poisoned
throwing stars and slings!

If it is true high elfs just bitch slapped dark elfs!

Why? DE are cheaper in general. And against most things, DE strike first and get rerolls. Against most things, HE will strike first and get rerolls. Against DE, HE won't get rerolls and DE won't strike first, just like now. DE will still outshoot HE, have assassins and ASF banners available. IMO DE still outshine HE with this change.

Combine that with the "Great Weapons always strike last regardless, unless you're ASF then you just strike in initiative order". So, for instance, a HE with a great weapon will always strike in initiative, and a DE with a great weapon will always strike last.

Meanwhile, Skaven assassins get an amazing boost, particularly when combined with poison attacks on a magic weapon. Blade of corruption rerolls to hit? Incredible. :D

Could you reroll the 1s and avoid the self-wounds? It says in the book that you are immediately wounded once you roll two 1s...

I'm pretty sure that is the definition of a reroll.

Correct unless we get a new FAQ.

Awesome isn't it ;)

the official rule is if you have asf and higher initiative than your opponent, than you reroll to hit.

if youi have asf and a great weapon, than you only strike with your initiative

all of a sudden deathmaster snikch and all other assassins just got stupider (amasing)
i know this because i read my stores copy of the book.

i love it, only downside is that high elves just turned from amasing, all the way to on speed, crack, adrenaline, i dunno, pretty much theyre all rerolling to hit 90 % of the time.

(facepalm) :KA-BOOM:

atleast the that stops swordmasters striking first, rerolling to hit at str6 though.
I'm not worried, they are still toughness 3 elves in mostly light armour
Assassin kill toll: 1 oldblood, 1 vampire lord, 2 chaos lords, Bretonnian lord, 3 Minotaurs and numerous champions with overkill. An ever growing list!

Two assassin builds I'm currently considering for 8th are:

1.) Blade of corruption + The other rouge shard ([15 pts] All models in base contact (friend and foe) need to re-roll successful saves)

Depends on exact wording if it forces the assassin to reroll saves. :P

2.) Weeping blade + Potion of Stregth ([20 pts] Only one use, +3 strength)

Potentially even use both of those in the same army for some serious character hunting?

Option 1 is ok but I don't you you need the armour save thing I would rather put poison on with the chance for a re roll and more 6s.

They only have to get 2 through in most cases and it's minus 2 to normal saves if they have tooled up on saves it wont be wielding a nasty magic weapon.

Decker, it does not mention the item wielder himself, just those in base contact with him.

BTW the award for best item name goes to the Terrifying Mask of EEEE! , that had everyone in the shop busting up for some reason.

it may be nt picking but it doesn't say anywhere assassin's lose their posion attacks if they buy a magic weapon...

Unless the rules changed in 8th, assassins should still have poison on their magic weapons, the poison in the scavange pile only pertaining to those who buy it via the Scavange Pile. Anyone else who either always have it (assassins) or who can upgrade with it(GR) in the skaven army has the "normal" rules for poison. It was covered in the FAQ.

Playing skaven to minimize randomness is like going to prom with your sister, you can do it if you really want, but in the end everyone will still laugh even if you do get lucky.

I always take at least one Warpfire Thrower. You can't always rely on your opponent to do massive damage to your troops. Sometimes, you just have to do a job yourself.
