So I run a strictly all Skyre list purely for thematic reasons but unfortunately g.rats are not a skyre unit. I really want to use them so after some brainstorming I came up with the idea of little robot spider like things followed around by 'packmasters' carrying remote controls (possible on rollerblades to explain why they can move so fast) Each spider is made up of a body, 4 legs, an eye, and a chunk of warpstone. The legs are made of wire and the eye is made of the green stuff. The warpstone chunks are coming from some aquarium gravel. The problem I'm having is the bodies. I made one out of green stuff but the material is either to soft to add the legs with out squishing or is to hard to add the legs. Also green stuff is going to add up quick I'm to make all 150 intended. The question is: Does anyone know of a object that would work well for the bodies? It needs to be a 1 cm diameter sphere that can have 4 wire legs stuck into it. It also needs to be obtainable in the US and relatively cheap. Thanks |

Plastic beads? You can drill into them to stick the wire legs in. Other than that you could possibly use the warpstone chunk as the body. Love the idea by the way! |

I've got another idea. Something like clockwork rat. Here is an example: http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/4936/blograt.jpg What do you think of it? I think it's more Skavenish... |

The idea is great and right up the same alley, the problem is construction. I need a simple design b/c I want them to be easy to make and relatively cheap. Otherwise I'll never be able to make all 150 of them |

What about sculpy or super sculpy? Pretty cheap and plentiful. I think you can drill it, but I'm not sure. Air drying Clay would be really cheap but I doubt it would hold up to wear and tear. I invested in a moulding kit (cost about $60) which can make silicone rubber molds of whatever, and the plastic to make models with. I planned to make some terrain stuff with it for warhammer and a WW2 game I play with my nephew. I can't comment on how it worked out since I am waiting for better weather to start. I did figure out that it would be alot cheaper to make molds than to buy the stuff already made, and since I'll own the molds I can make as many as I want and even sell what I make too. Since you live in USA you should be able to get similar stuff for half the price I paid, just shop around. I recommend this method because for a small amount of effort you can reap almost an infinite supply of models. Since you want to make so many this would be your best option.
haha I like that, with mismatched scavenged wheels that would look awesome. It gives me ideas for rat ogres too. |

One of my friends has a clockwork Abom for his Skryre force. Originally, it was just a robotic steam rat monstrosity. It kind of evolved and then a turn-key was added to the back that pushed it over the top. I think wind-up rats would be great additions...and I don't think they would be all too difficult if you could find the old metal giant rats. The new plastic ones are just too small, though. |

Well, these being Skryre afterall, none of them should really look too similar. ![]() I can't help thinking of an idea I had a while back. If you ever used to read the Dandy anuals (or the comic if you're old enough to remember this character :P), then you might remember the chracter General Jumbo, I always thought that the Skaven equivellent would be pretty cool. (afterall, you can get plastic 40k Epic figures really cheap on e-bay) For those of you who don't know General Jumbo, and can't be bothered to read the link, he was a kid with an army of tiny remote control soldiers, tanks, boats and planes that he wondered around solving crimes and problems with. ![]() Otherwise, awesome idea man, they sound like a cross between the crystal bats from Dark Crystal and those spidery things from minority report. ![]() lets see some concept pictures. -Glod |

what about making a circle from plastic card (polystyrol), put the warpstone in the middle of it and put the legs and eyes at it. will make a little sketch to show you what i mean... mutate: sry but i worry that my camera just crashed ![]() mutate II: got my camera working. this is what i meant. shouldn't be hard to scratch build, but requires some time if you want a whole unit of them. ![]() greetz finger... |

I know you're hooked on the spider thing, but why not use all the rats that come with all the various skaven things, stick something out of their back to look like an antennae, and then paint their eyes warpstone green? just a thought...

Okay, if you are still into the spider thing... Go with furniture mushroom plugs and paperclip legs. |
