Yeah the title and description sums it up. I need a skin colour for my host, I wanted to go with a realistic, rat-like pink, I dont like the look of the comparably yellowish more human like flesh tones the GW studio army has I want something like this![]() for my skaven. (Although except for the plague monks most of my rats are not going to be hairless) Does anyone know a colour (preferably GW or Vallejo paint ranges, but others of similar quality are welcome too) that fits the skin colour of a real rat? I wouldn't like to go to mixing, because I cannot recreate the same shade again because of my red-green weakness. |

I used to use dwarf flesh, but now I'm using the Game color pale flesh. It looks much better after washes. |

I do recall myself using a Calthan Brown basecoat, followed by Dwarf Flesh as a main coat, and with Elf Flesh highlights, before details such as eyes and teeth. -Blader |

Dwarf and elf flesh in my experience result only in human skin tones, nothing like the pink of a rat. And brown inks or washes only take it further away from pink.

wow, i can actually contribute to this painting conversation, this may be a first. *waves flag for cheap paints from your hobby store* places like Michael's have every color you could imagine. usually a dollar will get you more than you could ever really need. use a loud pink as a base coat(or something similar), and then highlight and wash it till it's the ratty color you want. by the way, i checked, and in case this wasn't common knowledge, games workshop doesn't carry anything close to pink. |

What about 'tentacle pink'? Was that discontinued? You could use blood red and mix it with skull white...that would give you a nice pastey pink, or you could try mixing some red wash with some water and just paint that over a white base coat...haven't tried it myself...but its worth a shot. Having checked out the paint colors on the GW site, Dwarf Flesh looks like its the closest to pink they make any more...if you add white to that for highlights, that would give you a suitable pink as well...elf flesh and even bleached bone have yellow in them which will 'muddy' a true pink color. hope that helps. |

Vallejo do a 'squid pink which is lovely & can be highlighted up with their 'rosy skin tone' they also do a nice pinkish flesh wash, 'fleshtone shade' which looks like red ink in the bottle but dries a great blush colour... the same colour as a freshly slapped backside! |

I got some of Vallejo Squid Pink at the store today and it does look quite promising. First I was worried that it was going to be too purplish, as it's supposed equivalent from GW was. (@Brother Bart, yes it was discontinued, but it had a really strong purple touch) I think Squid pink is just what i'm looking for. Thanks everyone.

Well I think pink skaven look silly. Tried it on a rat ogre once, I'll stick to vermin brown and tan flesh. |

Im going to spread the fur on all my skaven (including moulder creatures) the way it is spread on a real rat, so the only parts that are actually going to be pink, will be fingers, toes, palms, ears, tail, a bit around the eyes and a very thin stripe around the mouth and up to the nose, the rest will be black fur. |

I'd say start with a Shadow Grey basecoat, mix in Bleached Bone for the highlights, and then wash once or twice with very heavily thinned Tentacle Pink. Hould give a similar tone to the naked rat in the picture. |
