Hi there! After playing Lizardmen for some time now I was looking for a new army to recruit.. Something with cloths this time!

Since skaven was all new-ish i decided to try this out. Now i just need a starting idea to aim for. Let's see!

Grey Seer--2x Power Stone--Skalm 310

Chieftain--BSB--Shield--Banner of the Under-Empire 97

Warlock Engineer--LV2--Warp-Energy Condenser 120

Plague Priest --Lv2--Flail -- 139

Core

30 Clanrats--FC--Shields--Ratling Gun 210
25 Clanrats--FC--Shields--Warpfire Thrower 202½
25 Clanrats--MuSt--Shields--PWM 189½

20 Skavenslaves 40
20 Skavenslaves 40
20 Skavenslaves 40

Special

6 Gutter Runners 72
25 Plague Monks--FC--Plague Banner 230
7 Plague Censor Bearers 112
5 Warplock Jezzails 100

Rare
1 Hell Pit Abomination--Warpstone Spikes 250
1 Warp Lighting Cannon 90

Most of the time i play against (chaos)Dwarfs/Empire/Beastmen.. So i am not planning to go Dispel Scroll heavy since i don't play that much 'serious' games... yet..6 DD should be enough.
The only reason that i wanted a HPA is because i had such nice idea's to build one.. and not using it would be a waste then. PWM is there because i got to learn to aim with guess weapons.. Since Lizardmen don't have any of them, that way i couldn't really learn that part of the game as well. Although i'm pretty accurate when guessing for my opponents. Sadly i had no points for the giant rats..

My first opponent would probably be Beastmen since we both started our new armies.

Any handy hints and tips for playing skaven in general much appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to the tunnels :)

This looks like a nice varied list, with a sprinkling of a lot of things skaven, so I'd pretty much run with it as is, see what you like.
The only thing I really wouldn't do is kit out your second warlock engineer with the warlock augmented weapon and warpstone armour. I know it looks as though they're made for warlocks, but in fact WEs are pretty useless in combat, and this is a lot of points to make one almost-mediocre. Plague priests are a bit more handy in combat, and would let you give plague spells more of a whirl (tho ofc your seer can choose from both). You could get a lvl 2 PP with a flail for about the same points - put him in with the monks instead?

As for tactics, your list is going to rely on static combat res, so make sure your large blocks are supported by flankers - slaves are good for this, you can even move them into a position where your opponent could easily charge them, since most won't - and if they do, make sure your clanrats are the ones getting a flank charge in. PCBs are awesome flankers too, and can chew up heavily armed troops (e.g. Dwarves). Jezzails are great for that too, of course. Against dwarves and empire, don't deploy your gutter runners, and let them come on behind your opponents war machines where they can have a whale of a time.

go look at the stickies from the tactics section. anything you could possibly want to know about skaven is there.

for a lizardman player, this article is illustrates some tactics that you should be familiar with, but haven't been able to use before. http://underempire.net/index.php?showtopic=28800
The best way to configure an army is to go play demons.-Nevamore Posted on Nov 6 2009, 04:02 PM

Thanks for the welcome and advice. ^^

There was an idea for the Warlock to guard the WLC.. but rethinking it would be pretty much a waste for the amount of points. I should have also bought a gun for him then..Yes,yes.. He will be eaten first.

I'll swap swap the Warlock for the Priest.. A shot for the Plague is always good of course!
I be sure to study the stickies anytime soon. Counter Charging is always fun with more ^^.

Thanks once more!

I would consider dropping the rattling cannon in favor of a different weapon team.

I kind of like the Ratling Gun... I don't see Doomflayer doing that much.. 1 Warpfire is enough. Mortar is just a try out.. Sadly clanrats can't use the Warp Grinder

The Ratling Gun reminds me a little of Skinks..And i love skinks..Mmmm Skinks.
