Life Is Cheap

My local group is looking at starting to play WHFB as well as 40k.

I have chosen Skaven for my army and I adore the fluff. This is my first list with the army and I would love some opinions on it before I purchase the models.

1500 Point Limit.

Hero's
Warlock Engineer
+ lvl 1 Wizard
+ Warp Energy Condensor

Warlock Engineer
+ lvl 1 Wizard
+ Dispel Scroll

Plague Priest
+ lvl 2 Wizard
+ Flail
+ Plague Furnace
+ Rival Hide Talisman

Core
25 Clanrats
+ Standard
+ Musician
+ Ratling Gun

25 Clanrats
+ Standard
+ Musician
+ Ratling Gun

20 Skaven Slaves

20 Skaven Slaves

5 Giant Rats
+ Packmaster

5 Giant Rats
+ Packmaster

Special

30 Plague Monks
+ Musician

6 Plague Censer Bearers

5 Warplock Jezzails

Rare
Doomwheel

------------------------------

That's it. Comes in at 1498.

Please let me know if you think this could work. I will be facing Bret for sure but i don't know what my other friends are choosing for their armies. I expect a mix.

Many thanks and remember...

life is cheap.

MUTATE: Changed the plague censor on the Priest to a flail and got rid of one Warp Condensor. With the spare points I added a Dispel Scroll and a Rival Hide Talisman.

I also forgot to mention that I had Ratling Gun weapon crews on each Clan Rats unit! No idea how I forgot that!

The list is now 1500 points exactly. Please add any more comments that you can think off. Is the ratling gun a good choice?

Thanks all.

This is a very good first list. There is one small problem though. The Warp Energy Condenser is a Magic Item, and aside from a few exceptions (ie. Scrolls, Powerstones, etc.), you can't have more than one of the same Magic Item in a list. So the second Warlock won't be allowed a Condenser.

Also, it's worth pointing out that the Plague Censor gases everyone in Base to Base contact when you're fighting, so the Priest would end up gassing every Plague Monk in contact with the Furnace. Now, the Monks are resistant to the fumes, but when you're touching 15 models you're still likely to fail 2 or 3 of the tests per round of combat. Personally, I'd go with the mundane, yet powerful flail.

MUTATE: Plague Censor Bearers and Jezzails are both VERY good choices for fighting Bretonnia. Their Knights are well armored, but the Censor fumes ignore armor and the Jezzails punch clean through it.

Die! Die! Every-things!
PL is totally right about the two condensers, and the advice about the Plague Censor on a Furnace is good, too.

I'd trade the Plague Censor for a normal flail and use the spare points to 'upgrade' the second condenser to a Doom Rocket. Alternatively, I'd add a dispel scroll instead OR buy some protection for my Priest (he is the general, right?). The Shadow Magnet, Rival Hide Talisman, and Scrying Stone are all good options for him (I use the latter two when a Priest is my general).

Besides those items, very very good list :)

I Am The Monster
a word to the wise, go look up speed painting techniques. i'm all for skaven, favorite army, but be prepared for a little hard work to get that army running.

the skaven blight painting club is a good motivator, as are painting vows.

Wow some really great tips there. Many, many thanks guys! Also thanks for the kind words about the list. Means a lot. I have never played Fantasy before but after reading up on Skaven this list seemed to tick most boxes ;)

@Pestilent Lord:
I had not thought about my poor Plague Monks! That censor is really not a good idea when so many touch the base of the furnace. Flail it is.

I did not know that rule about the magic items. I really don't know much about Skaven magic items in general so I will do some reading and replace one of them with something else.

@wolfatbar:
That Doom Rocket looks like a lot of fun! The Priest is my general and I had not given much thought to his protection. Points might be better spend toughening him up. Again I will do some reading. :)

@deathmaster riddick:
My local group plays if models are painted or not, but....
This army is one that I want to completely finish. I am looking for a decent table top standard for every model and speed painting is the only way I am ever going to get this done.

I will look around this forum for tips on painting lots of clan rats.

Thanks again, and remember...

life is cheap.

MUTATE: I have altered my original post with changes to the list. Forgot to say that I had ratling gunners on each clan rat regiment. Doh! Please comment :) Thanks all.
