I am looking at attending a tournament in my local area that will be 500 point warbands. We are allowed to have a single rare and a single special. If you choose not to have a rare, you can use that as an extra special choice. I was wondering what everyone here thinks is a good list to use for this? I am going to assemble my skaven horde to meet the criteria for this tournament, and use this as a way to keep moving forward with building and painting my army. Any help would be appreciated. TD |

I find that a horde mentality works very well at low points. Everybody else has the minimum core and a cheap hero and that fills most of the points. Not so with skaven. I was going to be in a 500 pt. campaign myself awhile ago, but it never panned out. My list had 2-25 clanrat blocks with standards and musicians, 2-20 slave blocks, a big Giant Rat Pack and still had points left for a well-equipped Chieftain. The only thing in the whole list worth shooting or magicking is the Chief and good luck picking him out of his unit. |

I agree with the sentiment - swamping them is the skaven way at low PV. But given how (in)effective a cheiftain is going to be, I think I'd try to squeeze in something with real punch, in case they sink all their points into something nasty. Something like: 25 Clanrats, standard, musician 25 Clanrats, standard, musician 20 Skaven slaves 20 Skaven slaves 1 Doomwheel which leaves 44 points for a general - I'd either drop a clanrat, and take a chieftain with an extra hand weapon for the +1 ld, or else a warlock engineer with a smattering of magic/scavenge items (eg Musket, or a Death Orb), or a naked engineer and go for a rat dart for extra flexibility. Alternatively, you could drop the doomwheel, and a clanrat from each unit, and go with 2 lvl 2 warlock engineers - not many people will be bringing 6 PD to the table at 500 pts. |
