Bear with me, ive never really converted before, and this is just the beginning....I am using random bitz I got one day when I went to the store during an event.... I realize its not smooth, but I will make it smoother later, also, I realize it will never be perfect, I guess I'll just go with "Skaven don't care if it looks good, those troops are there for effectivness...they don't even make it good enough to be safe, because whats the point in keeping 2 minor rats alive" ![]() Well, without further ado, let me introduce the beginnings...C+C appreciated! (camera is A little fuzzy...) ![]() ![]() |

Looking promising! For the final surface of the mortar, if you can get your hands on brown stuff, I highly recommend that for inorganic shapes. It's easier to smooth and can be shaped to sharp edges and flat lines better, you might find it more forgiving for the ends of your mortar. Alternatively, if you can get your hands on a rim from elsewhere (like a spare cannon or tube, even), that'll work heaps better. I always try to use existing parts for my conversions, with putty to fill in the spaces in between, saves a lot of effort trying to sculpt shapes from scratch. Keep going! I look forward to more pics, or else. :ph43r:

jee, thanks scriv! Now I have a reason to keep going (Please keep the daggers low! :P) Thats why I posted it here in the first place...so. Update!: Made the mortar longer, aswell as I used a fanatic ball for the globe inside....Its slightly wider than the base, so im not sure what to do...(Add something onto the base that goes a little wider I guess?) Also, because it is so large, I realize that skaven would never be able to lift it, so I will add wheels onto the front sides in the later stages! ![]() ![]() Also...what is brownstuff? Any chance you could point me in the right direction to find it? |

It's quite rare, but online hobby stores would sell it. It's Kneadatite brown aluminium epoxy putty. I find it less sticky than GS and you can cut and file it once it's hardened, here's an example of stuff I've done with it:![]() It can be quite brittle for fine detailing and thin layers, but shouldn't be a problem for your purposes. |
