In less than a fortnight I'm off to Warhammer World to take part in this years Warhammer Campaign Weekend. It's one of my regular events I attend in the year and this year the story is based on and titled "The Wrath of Nagash" The year is 1449 IC and Nagash is still reeling from his destruction at the hands of Sigmar nearly a millenia and a half previously. His spirit has returned to his lair in Cripple Peak and is slowly rebuilding his strength. If Nagash recover his six artifacts of power he created, including his Crown, Sword and Black Armour he can truly restore his power. Not in a position to lead a renewed attack on the Empires of Man, Nagash has used the centuries to set in motion a plan that would bring his enemies to the lands of the dead and in so doing bring the arifacts he so dearly desires within his grasp. Slowly but inexorably, the presence of Nagash's spirit further corrupted the lands around cripple peak and evil creatures once more flocked to his lair. This did not go unnoticed and soon tales came to the ears of Sultan Jaffar of a great evil once more dwelling in the desolation of Cripple Peak. Soon, the sultans armies were beset on all sides by roving bands of ghouls and skin-changers. In order to save his land Jaffar called on the aid of great Elemental gods of Chaos. Jaffar new that such pacts would have a heavy price, but faced with annihilation from a greater evil Jaffar had no choice. With his armies flush with Daemons of fire, wind, water and earth he not only drove back the ghoulish raiders but was able to use his newfound power to launch an invasion of neighbouring Estalia. Word of this attack soon reached King Louis of Bretonnia and he called on a Quest to rid Estalia of the evil Sultan. The young Bretonnian nobles were joined by a great host from the Empire who also sort the destruction of Jaffar. As Estalia burned at the hands of Jaffar, Lokhir Fellheart used the opportunity to carry out raids on dozens of towns along the coast and brough a dreaded Black Ark full of Corsairs to plunder the beleaguered nation. The Watchers of Medes, a small group of High Elves left in the Old World to keep an eye on the possible return of Nagash have seen the signs and portents and their vigil is over, it's time to act. Ancient eyes from the cursed kingdom of Lahmia watch the unfolding events with interest whilst the Might Tomb Kings rise up by the will of Settra to battle Nagas's agents once more. Despite this, the Skaven boil forth from their subterranean domain as the Council of 13 commands them to strike now before the dead things act foolishly and bring about Nagash's true resurection. The Scene is set, battle will take place in the lands of the Dead. This is just a brief summary of the campaign background, but I feel it is important to highlight the difference between campaign events and tournaments. It's the story that matters. Win or lose, if you take part in the right spirit you are going to have a good time. There are numerous armies you can use for the campaign, each with their own backgrounds, motives and views on the other factions. Naturaly I chose the Children of the Horned Rat. The army is only slightly restricted in what you can normaly use. Because of the Time in which the campaign is being fought Doomwheels and Ratling Guns are not available. The only Special Characters allowed are Skrolk and Throt and Skweel(who represent similar characters from this earlier age, Skrolk is old enough to have been around) and two created specialy for the campaign. Meek Gnawdoom and Flench Packlord. I decided to take both of the specialy created characters. Meek is a Grey Seer with a Warlock Augmented weapon (for which he only pays 35 points for) He has been given a prototype weapon to test known as the Reality Bomb. It is carried by agents loyal to Meek and deployed in one of the many tunnel networks which crisscross the battlefield of Araby. At the start of any of Meeks turns he can deploy the reality bomb anywhere on the battlefield. At the start of each subsequent turn roll a dice. On a 1-4 the bomb scatters 2d6 as it travels further along the tunnels on a 5-6 it detonates. All units within D6" multiplied by the number of turns before it detonates take 2d6 Str5 hits. A very random weapon indeed but which Meek gets for free. Flench is in effect the same as Skweel Gnawtooth except he rides a Ratogre Bonebreaker, carries skavenbrew which he can feed to his Ratogre pack (frenzy result counts as hatred) and has the foul pendant. Army selection for the campaign is as follows. You need to create a legal 1250 point army. This is called the War Party. You then need to add 1000 points to turn it into a legal 2250 point army. This is called the Hammerblow. The two combined are called the Main Battalion. Throught the weekend you will play games using either Warparty, Hammerblow of Main Battalion, sometimes doubled with a fellow team member. As Flench is general of my war party I decided to give it a Moulder theme. The Warparty is as follows Flench Packlord 190 20 Clanrats, shields, Standard and Musician. 102 20 Slaves, musician. 42 21 Grottlers (count as Giant rats), 2 packmasters and Grottle Splice (counts as Skweel Gnawtooth). 187 These are mutant creations of Grottle the effects of which are dependant on what you roll. (but we are allway praying for regenration )17 Giant rats, 2 packmasters, Master moulder with Great weapon. 104 4 Rat Ogres, 2 packmasters. 176 4 Rat Ogres, 2 Packmasters. 176 Hellpit Abomination with Warpstone Spikes. 250 Some pictures of my army ![]() A close up of Flench and his mutant Rat Ogres ![]() The Grottlers (used to be Throtlings in my Hell Pit list) ![]() The Hammerblow is Meek Gnawdoom, riding a screaming bell. 475 Aprentice Seer Skulk Shadowslide (counts as Warlock Engineer but defults to skitterleap instead of Warp Lightning), Warplock pistol, warpstone token (which he has to keep well hidden from Meek lest he comandeer it. 123 Assassin Ratataki. 120 27 Stormvermin, shields, full command. 275 20 Slaves. 40 Some pictures of the Hammerblow Meek Gnawdoom and the Reality Bomb ![]() Skulk Shadowslide ![]() The Complete main Battalion ![]() I hope I have inspired some tournament players to consider these sort of events. They make for intersting armies and are great fun. Ratarsed |

Looks like a lot of fun, and you have a nice coherent army there - looks good too. I really like this kind of campaign, and it seems to me that basing campaign special characters on existing rules is eminently sensible in terms of balance. I like your bonebreaker-mount solution - a chariot base? Might just send me to my bits box, that one . . . |

I just love the fluff of this campaign event! Very nicely written, did you do it yourself or was it part of the Campaign Pack? Your army is looking simply amazing, I really dig the theme! Nice use of the new Plastic Minotaur for your Bonebreaker, I never even thought about doing that! Good luck on the campaign, have a good one! Cheers! |

I've just provided a brief summary of the campaign background. The Campaign pack has 5 A4 pages of background plus another half to 1 A4 for each of the factions. Many new units have been created for the campaign to let players imaginations and conversion skills run free. I'm hoping to take some pictures of these and write a campaign report on how it all went. Thanks for the kind words, I'm really looking forward to the event. Should be great fun. Ratarsed |
