I'm playing in a tournament with a weird comp system in a couple of weeks. There's no score, just some weird restrictions. The restrictions that apply to me are: -Plague Furnace will take up an extra hero choice -Storm Banner can only be taken on a BSB -No duplicating Rare choices -No more than 2 of the same special choices -Maximum of 9 power dice per turn With that in mind, I wrote up two lists: Grey Seer Dispel Scroll x2 Warp-Energy Condenser Screaming Bell Skalm Plague Priest Plague Furnace Flail Level 2 Shadow Magnet Trinket Portents of Verminous Doom Chieftain BSB Storm Banner Tail Weapon Shield 21 slaves Musician 21 slaves Musician 1 Packmaster and 6 Giant Rats 1 Packmaster and 5 Giant Rats 30 Clanrats Shields FC Doom-flayer 33 Plague Monks Full Command Plague Banner 7 Plague Censer Bearers 6 Plague Censer Bearers Doomwheel HPA Warpstone Spikes Alternatively, I could drop the Screaming Bell and Skalm for a unit of 25 Stormvermin with shields and FC, leaving my Seer on foot. Thoughts: -Having a character that expensive is really out of character (lulz) for me, normally I don't even bother taking a Lord. This makes me nervous. -Two Unbreakable blocks is nice, and they're both quite large, but I wonder if Clanrats are too wimbly to be a good bell-push unit. I could probably drop some Monks and some magic items and turn them into Stormvermin. Have people had success with Clanrats pushing the bell? -I'm happy with four "junk" drops, slaves and Giant Rats. Do I need more? I don't think so. Also, this is my first real post on this forums, so a big thank you in advance to the great under-empire community. I really look forward to being a part of this great site. I'm a regular on Warseer and Vampirecounts.net.

That's a (relatively) small army for skaven. You've only got 2 compotent ranked units, censersx2 abom and DW. I think you're going to find your RNF outnumbered against most other armies. IF someone gets a couple of decent cannon shots off on those 4 pricey items (bell, furnace, abom or dw) you're going to lose alot of your army's potency. Nearly half of your points is invested in characters, while only about 16% is in core. I'd cut some points and get more ranked units in the mix to support your 2 unbreakable units. --Cap |

Yes, character heavy is a bit of a departure for me. I figured that since even my most elite infantry is likely to be outfought by almost anyone else (especially HE, DE, LM and WoC core) I might as well get two huge tarpits. My standard tactic is to cram my anvils down the opponent's throat, then once they're trapped hammer them with the DW, HPA and PCBs. I could drop the Screaming Bell for 25 Stormvermin with shields, but then I only have one anvil block, since the Stormvermin are not exactly hyper elite close combat fighters. I normally don't try to beat the enemy in a knock down drag out fight because it's usually not possible. |

Um well for starters this isn't by any means a comp friendly list IMHO. But if you want your bell pusher unit to be a real tarpit, for even sword masters or chaos warriors, I suggest you bulk it up to 40 strong. I take 50 clan rats for my bell pusher and it is almost impossible to touch. Also can your chieftain take a tail weapon? I was pretty sure that comes out of your magic items |

I'm pretty sure a BSB can take Scavenge-pile items; the character options says "50 points of Magic Items or Scavenge-Pile Items" which implies that they are different, and the BSB entry only specifically prohibits magic items. And there's no comp score, the comp system is what I mentioned in my first post: lots of restrictions on what you can take and army-specific restrictions, not an actual comp score. It's weird, like I said. |
