Throt; Am I missing something?

I keep on looking over the rules for Throt the Unclean trying to find something that justifies his rather large points cost but really can't find anything.

He's just a Warlord with Killing Blow, Regen, an ability that is only useful in 3000+ games where isn't the general and another where he eats one of his unit if he does too much exercise.

Oh and a crappy whip. He should seriously slap Skweel upside his head and steal his awesome lash.

I really don't see anything that warrants such a large points value. Am I missing something with him?

Theme by and large - if you want to play a full "Moulder" army then he is the way to go. But from a competitive stand point there are better character choices for sure.

I thought as much. I'm by no means a hardcore player and do enjoy themed armies but he seems like a really poor choice by any standards.

if i remember correctly there is nothing in the rules any more that forces your general to be your highest leadership?

if so you could take trot and take a priest/chieftain general and have each lead a flank of his own. would make the leadership base more deacent and also gives you 2 ratogre packs if you wan them.

The whole reason he is as expensive as he is, though he is cheaper than the other lord characters, is because he makes giant rats and 2 units of rat ogres count as core. Personally I would only consider taking him in 3000+ games so you can take advantage of his leadership ability and free up 2 special choices.

Do you think, that every time a Plague Monk pees, he takes a S2 hit?

He also has movement 6, which saves you a 30 pt upgrade on other lords.

But really....he's an awesome second lord choice for 3k+ games, providing secondary general ability and freeing up slots. He's also for themed lists in 2k games.

I like that our special characters are something you'd have to think about taking, rather than some of the ridiculously obvious choices for power-gaming special characters are in other army books/codices.
No battle plan survives contact with Clan Skryre.

All very good points, seems I may just be biased against the big ol' fatty. ;)

On the whole I'm impressed with our special character choices, especially Skweel, Ikit and Tretch but Throt still seems a little bleh to me.

Ah well, a Moulder theme list was never one the cards for me anyway.

are we thinking of the same list? the only special character taht could possibly be considered decent for his points is skweel.

on topic, throt follows the trend in our SCs of being fragile and expensive.
