I am starting a 40K army, using the existing Tyranid codex, and the next imminently, with Skaven models; I'm not a WFB player, and don't plan to become one in the near future,as I have too many gaming systems in head already! (I am a Dad, and I run 40K and D&D groups for 11yr olds, so I am expected to know every rule of every codex & supplement!) As such, I don't want to invest in a FB rulebook. I have the Skaven codex, but I would like to read more on how a Skaven, and a Skaven player, thinks. I want my army to feel Skaven, not 'Nid, so I would like to get into the heads of some of you: does this site have any discussions of fluff, social structure, fanfiction, combat ideology etc, beyond what is in the codex? This project is fuelled by several motivations, most of which are a reaction against my Space Marine army: 1) modelling and painting animals, dirt and wood; I haven't done textures before. 2) running a horde army 3) fielding an army that is visually entertaining and most challengingly, 4) running an army that doesn't think like I do. My renegade Marines are good, honourable, courageous, intelligent, cynical, agnostic; all traits I aspire to (not always successfully...). I want to try and fight dirty! Do any of you do the method-acting thing, and become mistrustful, devious and malevolent whilst playing? I have been toying with this idea ever since discovering the Skaven models a year ago, and have just bought my first clanrats (soon to be gaunts). I hope this project will entertain and not offend, I am a light-hearted player with no aspirations to tournament entry. Thanks for your attention, comments and links would be very welcome! |

Interesting that you were going to go with the Tyranids. I have been wanting to have Skaven in 40K for about a decade. I've always thought about making a Chaos Marine army that was a brownish color and having skaven heads. With the new Space Wolf minis off I could see using a lot of their body parts with Skaven heads and you would have a cool lookig mutated force. |

True, the modelling potential is there for uber-rats, but fantasy Skaven are very much a horde army, and although they have elite units, they are supported, if not dominated, by masses of expendable rabble; this is certainly not the case for Space wolves, and although a chaos cult army would be very suitable, a chaos marine won would not, for the same reasons as the Wolves. If Codex:Chaos Space Marines had a troops entry for human cultists, with IG specs, that would make a perfect Space Skaven codex. |

i just put skaven heads and tails on CSM and explained that nurgle transformed them into rats ( i use them as palgue marines) |

It would be ugly to watch people poking sticks at a caged rat. It is uglier still to watch rats poking sticks at a caged person. 13th spell casts: 2 Kills: 32 Grave Guard,1 Vampire Lord | |
