The Grim Squeaker

Hey, So my first army is DE. Having read the Darkblade novels I really enjoyed them and have on many occasion tried to make a decent list involving him in one way or another. The thing is he's just too vunerable to go as my general but he's a pretty solid hero so with that in mind I've come up with the following. Characters: Mistress Yasmir -Death Hag -Cauldron of Blood -Manbane Venom Malus Darkblade Mistress Vyela - Priestess of Khaine -Lv 1 Sorceress -Seal of Ghrond -Tome of Furion -Biting Blade Core: 2x10 Crossbowmen -Shields -Musician (Meat Shields for main blocks) 5 Dark Riders -Crossbows -Musician (Support Knights) 2x5 Harpies Special: 18 Executioners -Full Command -Banner of Cold Blood 18 Black Guard -Champion with Ring of Hotek Standard Bearer with Banner of Murder 6 Cold One Knights -Champion with Null Talismen Rare: Ravens Claws Battery -2 Bolt Throwers War Hydra Total: 2248pts PD: 3 DD: 4 So 4 heavy hitter units, all capable of benefitting from the cauldrons blessings. No stupidity on the Knights is a huge bonus and with the right blessing and Malus's atacks they should be able to break almost anything. No ASF Black Guard....yes they have the Ring of Hotek (cue cries of cheese! ) but it is too valuable to leave out especially as I've chosen to go with no scrolls. They are more fluffy with the Banner of Murder and will benefit more with the AP rule it gives them. The lv 1 sorc is very different, she fits the fluff well and I think is more valuable than a Caddy as she brings 2 more DD to the table and she also gets 2 spells as well to choose from - not bad for a lowly lv 1. Between the Ring and the 4 DD it should be an ok magic defense. Hydra.....well come on its amazing! Yes I agree it should cost more than it does but I wont leave it at home! The Executioners are in for fluff, the models look awesome and hit like a train if they get the charge. They require more skill to use than the BG but I'm looking forward to the challenge. The banner should go someway to making sure they don't run off when the going gets nasty. So for a DE list its not that shooty, its not that OTT on magic, has no reverse Ward Pendant but should be excellent if/when it gets into CC. What do you think? All comments welcome! PS: To Mods - apologies if this is in the wrong place. No, you're good, perfect place for it really! I like how you didn't put it in Skaven Army Lists. ~ Lughtigern

I loved them too, very dark and gritty at times and was a great insight into Dark elf culture. Regarding the list,i'm pretty new to the gaming side of the hobby so i doubt i can give you any sound advice, however if i were building the same list as khainite theme based on the book, the first thing i'd want to do would be add an assassin to represent Arleth Vaan. I'd also drop the black guard and replace them with a nice big unit of witch elves. Again,im not really in a position to give advice but thats my input as far as a theme goes(i've been considering such a theme myself). Also,if you do build and paint this army,be sure to send me a link because i'd love to see it! Good luck, Mike.

Thanks for letting me know Lord Lughtigern ratmikey - Thanks for the reply. I'd throw in the Assassin, but I can't squeeze him in points wise....a shame I know but I really don't want to drop the Priestess - I'm really liking the unconventional setup of the lowly lv 1 that still yields alot. The BG are in due to their sheer brilliance, cool models, better rules and a cheap place to install the Ring of Hotek. I'm not keen anymore on making them ASF, seems boring and detracts from using them tactically, I'll need more practise with them but it will pay off in the long run. I won't swap them for WE, I don't like the models at all (liking the models is a big thing for me) and a T3 frenzied elf with no armour at all is kinda....well....poor in comparison to the BG. Malus is in purely for fluffy reasons, he is a fantastic character! If this list was tournement bound however, I'd drop Manbane Venom on the Death Hag and turn her into the BSB as well as being on the Cauldron. I'd also drop the biting blade on the priestess and turn Malus into this; Lord Typhon; -Dreadlord -Caledors Bane -Potion of Strength -Pendent of Khaeleth -Heavy Armour -Sea Dragon Cloak -Cold One Stupidity come back, BOO! But in return you get a fear causing LD10 Dreadlord with a 1+ AS vs shooting, 2+ AS in combat, the uber ward save and if he charges, you get 2 rounds of S7 hits that ignore scaly skin save! This guys a beast! He'll take on most things and win especially if the enemy monster takes a wound from the RBT beforehand. What do you think? The good news is bar 3 BG and the Execs unit I have this army complete and painted. Am trying to get a nice painted unit of Execs for Xmas! |
