All cut up...

Well your not exactly right but my 1500 pt grey knight army has 40 models in it: brother captain (general type dude), 12 GKs in 2 units of 6, 2 units of stromtroopers of 8, one of 5. All of the unts are mounted in 2 land raiders one of 3 rhinos with a dreadnaught just for laughs in there as well. The only problem is that this is the 3rd edition that they've been in so you have to take slightly broken armies just to have a chance. Also, no models in the book have plastic models for them unless they're a tank so be prepared for a mostly, if not entirely metal army. |

Dark Angels can give an elite army with a low model count; Deathwing (terminators) or Ravenwing (bikes) can both be taken as your compulsory troop choices. |

I think your first decision is whether playing or collecting/painting is more what you want to do. Space Marines can be very elite, even for normal tactical squads. A character to lead + some termies in elite + tacticals with kitted out sergeants eats up 1500 points quickly. Eldar has weak-ish troops choices but a cool variety of elites. If you haven't played 40k before I don't recommend Eldar if gaming is your priority. It has been confirmed through multiple sources that Tyranid warriors can be troops now. For ease of learning curve + painting opportunity, I really think vanilla marines are the way to go. |

the fact that power gamers use them does not make them nasty, spamming them makes the players nasty. the way i see it there is no ONCE CHEESY UNIT bu a combination of units/tactics that makes it cheesy (except a bloodthirster with obisidan armor, thats Brie de Meaux) |

It would be ugly to watch people poking sticks at a caged rat. It is uglier still to watch rats poking sticks at a caged person. 13th spell casts: 2 Kills: 32 Grave Guard,1 Vampire Lord | |

Yeah, the combination of untis is: 1 'boss, and nobz. As many powerclaws as possible. 'Eavy choopas, etc. 'Boss takes all melta/shot that would insta-gibb a Nob. The ride around and kill stuff. |

Actually, it's the ability to kit out all the bikers with different wargear so that wounds can be allocated to different bikers to let every model take a wound before you start having to remove models. Add that to T5 and FNP and you have a really hard to kill unit. But we digress.... Blitz, if the goal is the fewest # of models then something like Deathwing or Grey Knights would be a good option. |

Gotta agree. Space Marines are super boring- to paint, to play, to collect. HOWEVER. I play Daemonhunters (grey knights.) My reasons for this army: crazy elite choices- Grey Knights and Grey Knight Terminators are crazy! Also, at 25 points per grey knight, 52 (54?) points per Terminator, you can fill up 2000 pts rather quickly. And they all bring quite a bit of pain. variety- There are basically two trees within Daemonhunters- the Heretical branch that uses Daemon energy to boost their demon hunting ability, and the Grey Knights. If you tired of running grey knights, you can use some of the same core troops you've purchased to go in a completely different direction. the look- While similar to Space Marines, Grey Knight models are just enough different (and improved, in my mind) to stand out. check out the Nemesis Force Weapons the grey knights carry, as well as the Psycannon and incinerator. very, very nasty stuff. My favorite thing to do is teleport my grey knights in behind a crucial point on the battlefield and unload my stormbolters and psycannon/incinerator on whatever unit is defending. Almost always wipes out the entire target unit before I'm even to my last salvo Then the opponent responds by attempting close combat... which always makes me laugh... You're generally better off taking a face full of stormbolters than you are eating a Nemesis Force Weapon for lunch...
