For those who don't know the term "meta" it refers to your local playing environment. As I have posted on this forum, my meta is a very win at all costs, cheesy list, hard knock meta. We play to win and consider our gaming tournament practice.

What is your local play group like? Rules Lawyers, Friendly, Just plain bad?

Also - what is your local gaming group going to do about the tourney circuit with the Vegas GT invites? My group intendeds to travel to enough tournaments to qualify the six best players (to be determined in a local tournament shortly). After that we intended to continue to travel to the various tournaments to preemptively knock out competition by taking the one and two spots and prevent an excess of players showing up in Vegas.
Skaven Tournament Performances
Battle for the Block - Best General
4th Quarter RT - Best Overall
Rumble in Jackson - Best Overall
Toys for Tots Charity Tourney - Best General
1st Quarter RT - Best Overall
Gamerz Depot Tourney - 1st Place

i play a mixed group - some complete beginners and some heavy hitters on the tournament scene..... i generally use a all comers list designed to compete against the tournie players (dont often win but havent played them with the new book yet) then against the weaker players i just dont use some bits.....

last time i played a beginner i ignored 3 magic phases and only used 1 war machine per turn wether that was the wlc or the ratliggun (some turns didnt use either and not because i couldnt)

sometimes the beginners beat me but thats fine by me... if they enjoy the games and keep playing then it keeps my local store and my hobby alive

Recent studies show that people who have attempted to comprehend Daniel have either disappeared, died spontaneously, or driven themselves into a pertinent state of insanity and/or catatonia.

Back to retirement!

I come from a very social gaming group. We play for fun, and almost all our armies are based around theme rather than effectiveness. We still play 'to win', but its certainly not a 'MUST win' thing. Many of our games are done in the evenings with a few cold drinks and we just chill out and have fun. Its just a game afterall... :)
At my local GW I occasionally face more win-at-all-costs gamers (one of whom had a hissy-fit and left the store when he lost :P ), but I dont play them very often. All my regular opponents are just in it for fun...

And no, I dont play Tournaments. The closest I come to that is escalation-leage games at the local GW...

The Mad Ratter.

My gaming group is so relaxed that I can't remember the last time anyone played a game. We still get all of the books, and spend a fair amount of time pouring through them and commenting on how over/underpowered/cool things are over a cup of tea.

What can I say - we're scholars, not fighters! It's as much fun as I've ever had playing the game, so I'm not complaining! ^_^

Bunny ear says flop

This is the first time, to be honest, that I heard "meta" as a term of describing a whole gaming group. The only term I heard it in was meta-gaming, which was described as a min/max-gamer, that basically played like a powergamer, but built his army in such a way that it would give his opponent the least amount of VPs possible. (Read: the dozens of naked clanrat units with Ratling Guns in a 6th edition army).

My local Blood Bowl league is fairly relaxed (we meet twice per month, so keeping it social is more or less a necessity to keep the league alive as well), though some of the members are veteran tournament players (we have two former Dutch champions), others play to get a tally of wins, whereas others simply play for the game itself. *raises his hand with the 65+ percent of losses*...
I can also be found at tournaments and here I usually play to get better at the game itself (yes, despite having my 150th Blood Bowl match this week, I still try to improve my play), though against some opponents I gladly play to win and give them no free room to let them play effectively. My Lizardmen tournament setup is especially of use there. :P

Warhammer, I rarely play. (I loathe and despise the tournament scene there).

In the Horned One we trust, all others we monitor.

My gaming club is rather torn. We have a camp of hardcore "don't whine if you cant deal the cheese" and the "omg-lists-full-of-zombies-or-gnoblars-are-cool" gamers. Kinda hangs in the balance though I enjoy the last groups battles more.

I used to be schizophrenic, BUT WE'RE OKAY NOW!

My gaming scene is kinda mixed:
Every 2 weeks, I game with one of my buddy at his house, he's kinda power player type, although he doesn't join tournaments... He collected 5 fantasy armies over the years, I still have some diversity playing him, even after all these years... He's definately a good player, but tend to read the rules in his favor ;)

It's more exciting at my gaming store. The store's fairly recent, about 18 months, so you got a good deal of new players. But there's also a good deal of 'Old guards' players who used to game at another store which closed 3 years ago... They mainly hang at this new store because the store belongs to one of them :P ...

It's generally a friendly playing atmosphere... The 'Old guards' play friendly, all-comer lists with the strategical knowledge that come with years, so you still have tough matches against them... And the new players learn a LOT from them...
Of course, we got the occasionnal power hungry gamer coming around with his tourney army. Most of the time, these come around to challenge one of the Old guards. Most of the time, they'll do only one game too... I remember a Dark elf player who ended up sitting 5 hours straight watching others play, because nobody wanted to face his cheesy tourney army...

So yeah, friendly peoples around here, based over strategical might rather than abusive army composition.

I can be found gaming either at the local GW, or online through another forum (check my sig for details). At the local GW, it seems to be relatively relaxed play normally, as there are two groups, one about my age who are generally flitting between armies before they find one they really like, and so become really good with it. Then are the veterans, many of whom attend tournaments and some who have played for longer than I've been around. They normally have balanced lists when down at the store, though watch out if they're testing a build for the next tournament ;)

I've been to a couple tournaments, the only fantasy one being "Devourer 2008". But I'm planning to attend some Doubles Tournies coming up, so bear with me :P

so finding opponents is tricky :P

we tend to build hard-ish lists and play friendly. which maybe sounds a bit weird, but it's how it is.

That's actually kinda how both the local clubs I play with do things.

We generally make armies that are fun for us to play, but as tough as we can within those confines.

Occasionally, there will be agreements between players to bring ba$tard lists, which is fine, but the people I play against value sportsmanship and generalship over ability to build a ridiculous list. People who win with RnF lists out here are VERY highly regarded.

Mine is mainly my gf atm :P

Got back into Warhammer after a hiatus and don't really frequent the local clubs or GW that much so we play at home mainly when we get time and until we're both confident enough to crack a few heads ;)

She's getting good very quickly and unfortunately chose Daemons so I'm getting beaten a lot :(
