As I am near to completing my 2000pts army I need to decide on my secondary army (don't worry I'll still be getting Skaven) I have decided between Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs. I prefer Chaos Dwarf's playing style but I'm not completely sure about them because they're not an 100% army. The one thing about making me not being Chaos Dwarf is that my army Dwarf would be a highly mobile army and I think they would be fun to play as. I am as looking a bit forward to the converting challenges If I'm Chaos Dwarfs. Does anyone have any advice? |
I love my turn, it's all about me

Why not take Dwarfs, but convert all the models to be 'Bad Dwarfs'. Some kind of Dwarf lord on a vendetta that has led him down the wrong path. Half way between the regular look of Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs. Then you get to choose all the bits you like! |

As Trask said. But rather than just having 'evil' dwarfs, they could be simply Chaos Dwarfs using the Dwarf army list. Sure, there would be no Greenskin slaves, but alot of converting potential is available. Ive considered this army numerous times, and to be honest I dont know why I havent done it already... I guess Im just holding out hope that one day Chaos Dwarfs will return with their own book! - Sammy |

Chaos Dwarfs will get a book when Dark Eldar get theirs. It's a pity, both armies would be sweet to do. |

Check out chaos dwarves online. Dwarves give you a flexibility of magical items you just dont find with other armies, the problem with this is that as they are so slow they just can't make the impact you would want where you want it and you can end up with a waste of points and a diminutive throng for your diminutive Dawi. Chaos dwarves on the other hand can offer you a flexibility of list you just dont find with any other. On one hand you get rock hard dwarven infantry and on the other you get dirt cheap slaves, factor in good shooting, good medium cavalry and excellent fast cavalry. All this is before you factor in the ability that some army lists provide to poach units, heroes and items from other lists, not just beastmen, demons and hordes of chaos but orcs and goblins as well. Downside being the legal limbo the chaos dwarves inhabit and the scarcity of models. You may find the chaos dwarves to be similar in many respects to skaven but with advantages the average ratman would kill for. |

Why Does Rice take on Supersonics? We Choise to go to the moon. We choise to go to morselibe and do the other thing. Not because they are easy. But because there is much much warpstone! Warlord Kennisqeak`s address to the student warlocks at rice academy, skavenblight | |

I have considered the same thing. My main hurdle, though, is that the Chaos Dwarfs contain magic and monsters. Two things lacking in the Dwarf list. You could convert machines and stuff to be monsters, but they don't work the same. So to me, taking the Dwarf idea down an 'evil' path is the solution. You can pick and choose the Chaos Dwarf visual ques you like, and add in other ideas at your own discretion. But you are totally right. Converting an entire Dwarf army to look like the Chaos Dwarfs is a more than acceptable solution. |

I would ask how long it will take you to start this new army. Are you going to stop at 2000 points for sure, as I know it's pretty popular to play 2250, 3000 point games as well, and the replay value of an army improves when you can switch out units from the larger lists into the smaller. That being said, if you do decide to persue Chaos dwarfs, you should definetly take time to consider who you play with. If it's just your friends it'll be fine, but if it's a local club or a store, you going to need to ask around to see if it's ok. After that, you need to decide which actualy list you will use, the old ravening hordes list being the most acceptable. If you live in the U.S. and are a fan or the tournament scene, you might want to try the recently released Indy GT Dwarfs of Chaos list, as it is a much better one in my opinion gameplay and collecting wise and certainly up to date. As for the process of conversion and all that, you should probably Google "Battle for Skull Pass Chaos Dwarfw" and it will tell ou everything you need to know. If you are going to take longer on your current army though, or just have a ways off to finish, you may actually want to consider waiting a bit, as the rumor mill recently churned up a bit of information about a Forgeworld-like, sister company for Fantasy sprining up sometime, and that Chaos dwarfs would be thier first army approached. It will cerntainly be a while if these rumors have a truth to them, but if you really want Chaos Dwarfs themselves and don't mind wating, it would probably be the best option to see if it's true. |
