I played a good friend of mines skaven army today (firstly, i only have one unit of clanrats, second, I wanted to see what they could do)

And I really have to say that the book raised more questions than it answered!! Im loving the rules, and the army plays so much better. But I was wondering if you could all help and answer some questions that were raised:

1) can the doomwheel stand and shoot? I charged it with a dragon slayer and it seemed a bit wrong that he jumped straight through it, leaving kindling in his wake.
2)can ratling guns shoot into combat if the parent unit charges?
3)what base size should the war litter ideally be on?

After thoughts were various, im not overly impressed with the screaming bell (one well placed cannon ball dealt with that pain, and a miscast and bolt thrower bolt finished off the grey seer. But apart from that im strongly impressed with what I saw.
so...she was made of chimps?

-For question 1, I say NO. the Zaaaap attack is like a warmachine attack and I see no warmachine other than those that specifically say it (like our ratling guns and warpfire throwers) ever getting a stand and shoot. As for the Dragonslayer killing it, I am curious how the guy survived D3 str 6 impact hits when he charged the doomwheel? But if the dice weren't in the Skaven players favor, thems the breaks.

-For two, NO. Ratling guns can only fire into unengaged enemy troops. The only units you can fire into combat with are engaged slaves or if PWG are the ones doing the shooting. Our attachments are not like Empire troops where it specifically says they get a reaction for our parent units, We don't. Our attachements are seperate little guys that can use the parents leadership bonus if close enough and get a ward save. Thats it.

-For three, Its carried by 4 stormvermin so logic dictates is the bases of those 4 vermin, in otherwords 40mm x 40 mm

No stand and shoot, but re-read the doomwheel rules. It gets impact hits every turn, although they aren't as numerous as if it had charged. Like chariots, it doesn't do well if the enemy gets the charge.

Not sure exactly what the questions are, but I'll try and help.
- We can only shoot into combat if the only allied units engaged are slaves (exception: Globadiers)
- Ratling guns can stand and shoot if THEY are charged
- I don't thing ratling guns can stand and shoot if there parent unit is the one being charged, but I'll update the answer as soon as I'm home with my book!

3)what base size should the war litter ideally be on?

- Sensibly: 40mm by 40mm although there are NO rules saying what size it is

Now I have a question... are ranks for combat/leadership bonuses calculated in the same way they were with the screaming bell in the last book? If so, a 100mm wide by 80mm would give you a rank bonus of +3 regardless of how many models are in the unit. Don't do this though, because then you'd be a terrible person.

we treated that rule (exactly as youve said) today..well, the book doesnt say you cant! Dev

In regard to the ratling gun, youu could shoot into combat last edition. Much confusion ensued!

The thing that makes me question the war litter base size is that it mentions imitating the dwarf shieldbearers...That means effectively a cavalry base. Theres so much scope for how big the base could be..nothing says how big it should be.

It mentions that it variously imitates both dwarf shieldbearers and palanquins. I think either a 20x40 to a 40x40 should be acceptable.
