Hey guys I have been playing skaven for maybe three years now and I recently purchased the new book (no kidding!). Because of how busy I have been I have not been able to try out any lists I have made, making it very difficult to make one, so heres a list that resembles my old 6th ed army. Let me know what you think, or would, recommend. Characters Heroes Plague priest level 2 plague censor great pox rat general 181pts Warlock engineer level 2 Doom rocket Optics Warpmusket 165pts Warlock engineer level 2 warp energy condenser dispel scroll 145pts Core 35 clanrats full command shields 177.5pts attached is one plague mortar weapon team for 65pts 35 clanrats full command shields 177.5pts 36 clanrats full command shields 182pts attached is one doomflayer weapon team for 55pts 4 units 20 slaves 160pts Special 31 plaguemonks full command storm banner 292pts Rare Doomwheel 150pts Hellpit abomination warpstone spikes 250pts Total 2000pts I'm think of dropping one of the units of clanrats, or possibly reduce both that are carrying the warlocks so I can fit in a unit of jezzails or another plague mortar. I will also be playing against my brothers dark elves, I think the most effective way to kill some dark elves would be a plague furnace, I'll see if he wants to play 2250, because I will be able to deploy a furnace as well as a warlord. What are your thoughts on the army list, and possible tactics to rid the world of dark elves? Thanks for reading. P.S. I also wonder if I should equip the other 'lock with a warpmusket, or even the plague priest with a pistol, let me know. |

You could probably drop the clanrats back to about 30 or so without damaging their combat efficiency. With the points saved you could go for a mortar, or you could drop something else and go for a proper squad of jezzails, you want at least 5 of them to be effective. You can probably drop the clanrat champions, their only real function is to protect combat heroes, none of which you have going into clanrat units. I would advise against the Priest's Censer/Pox Rat combo. Mounted on a Pox Rat he'll be forcing 4 T tests on the enemy, but he'll also force 8 on your monks, plus 1 on the Priest himself. On the average, you'll kill one or two of them and at least 1 monk every turn with that much censer-gas. I don't know where exactly you would find the points, but I would also suggest you consider buying a Warlord. For roughly 100 points you can get a reasonably stable general with a point better leadership. |

I might swap out the plague monks for storm vermin instead, and I made a warlord on a rat ogre with an augmented weapon, a tail weapon, and a rat body guard for 13 attacks im pretty sure, I might include him instead, but hes 250 points approx, im just a little worried that the storm vermin might not be able to hit as hard as id like them to, so if I were to make this switch I might have to include doom flayers instead of plague mortars for the combat hittiness. I also dont have jezzail models, too pricey, so I would rather opt out of them and use what models I have. And I used to run my warlord fully naked in the back for 90 points but now we sadly dont have the lead from the back rule so im a little worried about putting him out without some protection, and if I put points into protection I may as well put points into combat efficiency as well. |

As for me, it is simply a swarm army. Don't understand why there is no lord in army. His leadership will give more stability. Maybe adding one or two small units PCB will be useful in CC against something hard-hitting. Roster is interesting and looks like real skaven force with big mass of swords and tails

I want to run it like how I ran my 6th ed army, my tactic was to break ranks as much as possible then get into combat and win by combat res, im not too sure about the plague monks, but I have alot of the models and I have the nurglitch model, and they are all painted nicely so I think i want to use them. I was thinking of dropping the plague priest though for a warlord and a bsb, (warlord bsb 2 'locks was my character set in 6th ed.) I really want to keep the storm banner as I dont have tunneling gutter runners anymore, but I think that the plague banner might be nicer on my plague monks to ensure they will at least kill some rank infantry. Im certainly not dropping my hellpit abomination, I really see no reason why not to take it, and I already bought a doomwheel model so im fielding it. I think I will try 2 units of 7 pcbs, when i ran them in 6th ed. they did quite a punching, maybe I will replace plague monks will pcbs, throw in some storm vermin a warlord and a bsb and have a solid anvil to back up my army. I will write a list later today and post it as a reply here. |
