Just for the fun of it, I wanted to see how many major clans could be represented in the new book with a full army. All lists are 2000pts approx. So here goes nothing.

Warlord Clans (Clan Mors)

Lords

Queek Headtaker
215pts

Heroes

Chieftain
Battle Standard
Grand Banner of Clan Superiority
100pts

Warlock Engineer
Lvl1 Upgrade
Dispel Scroll

25 Stormvermin

Musician, Standard Bearer
290pts

25 Stormvermin
Musician, Standard Bearer
190pts

Special

3 Rat Ogres
1 Packmaster
128pts

Rare

Doomwheel
150pts

Thoughts: A warlord clan is probably the most varied of all the options, but I didn't feel comfortable within the theme using units like plague monks. I also find the 1/2pt per model thing a bit silly, since I've always run clanrats in units of 25.

Clan Eshin

Lords

Warlord
Shield
General
93pts

Heroes

Deathmaster Snikch
270pts

Assassin
Warpstone Stars
170pts

Assassin
Weeping Blade, Smoke Bombs
160pts

Core

20 Night Runners
Warp Grinder
200pts

Special

10 Gutter Runners
Death Runner w. smoke bombs
142pts

10 Gutter Runners
Death Runner w. smoke bombs
142pts

Thoughts: I was initially skeptical about using Eshin under the new book, but this army could actually be pretty damn frightening. As a Tau player in 40K I know well the power of having your entire army start off the table and striking them in where you want. A lot lower on numbers than your standard skaven army, but Eshin always was meant to be rather elite.

Clan Skryre

Lords

Warlord
Warlock-Augmented Weapon
Shield
General
138pts

Heroes

Warlock Engineer
Lvl2 Upgrade
Staff of Sorcery
135pts

Warlock Engineer

Doomrocket, Warp Energy Condenser

Rare

Warp Lightning Cannon
90pts

Thoughts: Ah Skryre, the old cheese kings of the Skaven book. I think they've been balanced a hell of a lot, and all it really took were a few small changes. Ratling guns rolling to hit and jezzails being ranked mean that skryre can actually be used without attracting shouts of derision. There's a lot more choice than any of the other clans so far, and I actually had real trouble choosing what to put in. My favourite so far.

Clan Moulder

Lords

Thoughts: Well bugger me that's a lot of rats. Throt's changes to army composition seem minor, but look at the new price for giant rats and tell me they aren't an absolute steal.

Clan Pestilens

Lords

Lord Skrolk
470pts

Heroes

Plague Priest
Plague Furnace
250pts

Plague Priest
Lvl2 Upgrade
Flail
139pts

125pts

Rare

Plagueclaw Catapult
100pts

Plagueclaw Catapult

Thoughts: Holy crap, this army is tiny. I did my usual thing of going through, picking out what I wanted and putting it in. Thinking 'pestilens can't be that much more expensive' I used about the same amount of models, maybe a few less. Total? 3800pts. Holy christ on a chopstick. The full pestilens army with multiple furnaces won't be turning up in anything less than 3000pts. There's simply not enough models in this list to do much with. Still, this army has good magic, has an amazing tarpit and some great heavy hitters. Difficult to use, but could be very effective in the right hands.

On the good news side, censer bearers being moved to special is absolutely ungodly. Under the old book I filled both of my rare choices with them because they were so hilariously good. In their time, they chewed through more heavy infantry units than I can count. 25 longbeards with a thane? Broken in one round of combat. 15 Chosen Khorne Warriors? Broken in one round of combat. 22 Temple Guard with Kroak? Broken in one round of combat. I'm only listing the most notable examples because otherwise I'd be here all day. Now they've been moved to special and don't need to be bought with a plague monk unit I can forsee them being the snake in the grass of cheese in the current list. I swear, they were the best unit in the old list and they got a huge buff.

Overall thoughts: I'm not sure which clan I prefer. I think if one wanted to go pure clan, Pestilens and Moulder have a clear leg up power-wise, although both are reliant on a skilled general. I personally will probably go with a Moulder list with skryre elements. Fluffwise it's nice that there's two mages, but I still wish there were a generic warlord mage of some kind.

Well, I hope this has been enlightening. :P

Interesting but ............... only 1 unit of NightRunners may take a Warp-grinder. And another rule restricts GutterRunners too. Albeit possibility of more tunnelling units.
Suggestion: For quick reference please add the totals of each army. (Yes, I am lazy)

They're all 2000pts almost exactly. Might need to think about Eshin again then: they seem the most gimped army in the current book. Not even an opponent's permission only master assassin. *grizzle about Snikch*

Not if you use Lord Skrolk. See Page 98. "If Lord Skrolk is the army's general the owning player can treat Plague Monks as Core Choices."
