Does this mean that you guys don't allow the DE Whip of Agony (which explicitly has the Hand Weapon rule in addition to it's magic properties) to get the shield bonus? Or that the Hydra Beastmasters only get 2 attacks instead of 3 since they don't have additional hand weapons? The DE FAQ (http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2250130_DarkElves_FAQ_Jan09) is quite explicit as are the rules for magic items on pg. 121. Although there are few of them, a magic weapon which has the Hand Weapon special rule explicitly in its description gets the bonuses of a Hand Weapon (such as Hand Weapon and Shield) just like a weapon with the Lance rule gets a bonus on the charge when used by a mounted character. Mutate: For what it is worth, there are no such weapons in the new Skaven book so it will only come up when facing an opponent like a DE who took the Whip of Agony... |

Q. Does a character benefit from the "Fighting with hand weapon and shield (infantry)" rule found on page 56, if armed with a mundane hand weapon and a magical shield? A. Yes. However it will not if armed with a magical weapon and a mundane or magical shield, because the magical weapon loses the normal rules of hand weapons. THIS about covers it, no you would not get parry bonus with whip of agony unless it actually specifically says you will. |

Warp Armor (4+), Enchanted Shield (2+), War Litter (1+), Mundane Hand Weapon will get you to 0+ to the front in combat. (Preemptive: Mundane Handweapon + Magic Shield combos are covered in the general FAQ on the GW website) --Cap |

Can't take two magic armor items on a single character. Also, once you put the character on a mount he loses the parry bonus. About the Whip of Agony, it is definitely a magic weapon which is ALSO a Hand Weapon, so it would give you a parry bonus if you took a shield. |

Forgot about the mount/ parry part (having never had a Warlord mounted on anything, even back in fifth edition). I thought the shield combo was legit though. Oh well, nm. --Cap |
