I just got the 7th ed. army book and I don't quite understand how the shooting on the doomwheel works. it fires 3 bolts of warp lightning to the nearest units, with its strength determined by an artillery dice. But how many hits does it do? is it a warp lightning like the spell? Or just a straight line like the warp lightning cannon? Or is it just 3 times one hit? It might be a stupid question but I hope someone can clarify this for me, so I can work out my cunning plan against my rival dark elf player Thanks a bunch, Ironclaw |

It fires 3 bolts, all three bolts are resolved at the str of your artillery dice roll. --Cap |

It's only 3 hits, but if it hits a multi wound creature (or unit of same - ogres for example), each hit multiplies to D3 damage |

You mean each unsaved wound is multiplied into d6 wounds. Doomwheel is serious business versus monsters. |

the best bit i think is that you roll to wound etc separatly for each bolt , which means its quite cool when you think about it killing multiple things in one shooting. It just means you don't wind up blowing 3 shots on one giant for it to turn out you've rolled 9 odd wounds. |

this might be a stupid question but if a unit in combat is the closest thing to the doomwheel would he fire into combat or shoot at the next closest thing, or nothing at all if there is nothing else near him? the other question i have is what if the doomwheel runs into something and counts as being in combat would it make its lighting attacks at the guy it is now in close combat with, cause they are the closest thing or would he shoot out of combat to the closest target? played my first game with it today and those were to things that came up. |

I'm no expert, but I believe it will hit THE closest unit within 18". This would include a unit in close combat as best I can tell. It doesn't make any mention or consideration for target not being eligible so I must assume that it zzaps! the closest unit regardless of targeting considerations. This is as per page 67, 2nd paragraph in the "Zzap!" entry. |

thats how i read it too, but someone i played said it had to specifically say it could shoot into close combat. and if that is the case what would the doomwheel shoot at while it is in combat? |

Well it very specifically fires while in combat so one must assume that when it combat it will shoot at the unit it is in combat with as that unit is logically the closest unit. If it were ruled that it could not shoot at units in combat then I'd imagine it would shoot at the closest unit within 18" as per the rules. However I must say I am STRONGLY of the opinion that you may fire at units in combat as it says "it will hit the closest unit within 18". This seems pretty clear to me that it hits THE closest unit, not the closest unit that is a shooting target. |

Looks like its time to start bringing a dictionary to battles. How can the meaning of the word CLOSEST get confused? The closest unit is the one that is the closest. If the DW is in combat it is pretty self explanatory to me. Cant get much closer than base to base. |

because this is the name my topic would bear, i have another question: How is it with Doomwheel and firing during Stormbanner active? Does it shoot as normal, on 4+ or non at all? Thanks for any clarification. |

as it states all non magical missiles and warplighting is a magic missile i would say that it isnt affected.... i would also say that since most of our shooting weapons are warpstone weapons and that makes them magical that most of our shooting is un-affected |

Daniel cannot possibly exist in a dimensional state. Recent studies show that people who have attempted to comprehend Daniel have either disappeared, died spontaneously, or driven themselves into a pertinent state of insanity and/or catatonia. <img src="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/adoptables/23041.gif" alt="Broken Adoptable Image" /><br><a href="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/levelup/23041-dark-whisper.htm" title="Level up this Daemon!">Level up Adoptable!</a> | |
