I've just finished to read the new book, i've always played a "normal" army list but this time i've thinked like a rat... the real power of the skaven it's the number, so why don't create a "super horde" of 2000 points? so this is the list, i've to try it in battle in the next months to see if works... Sreaming Bell + grey seer 540 p Furnace + priest 285p 50 plague monks 350p (for the furnace) 100 clanrats 400p (50 for the bell) 120 slaves 240p 5 jezail 100p tot 1915p + 85p for some extras to the clanrats 2000p for almost 280 models on field... simply an hord, what you think? can work? Those unit sizes are waaay too big The Bell and Furnace take up 15 spaces, so your Monks and Clanrats will have the equivalent of 65 models! The max ranks you get is 3. 20-30 (depending on how wide you go, wider for Monks of course) is plenty. Straight numbers don't work as well as you'd like. Plenty of armies can break blocks nowadays with elite infantry or mobile flankers. For all those ranks, having 5 dudes on horsies totally negate them and run you down kinda sucks. You need something more, something to knock out flankers and cripple heavy infantry so they won't rip your ranked units apart. Magic and shooting are generally your best bets, flankers of your own are great too. Giant Rats are cheap and move quickly, making them ideal flank protectors or flankers of their own. Magic and shooting to nail enemy skirmishers and flankers and whittle down hard units. A BSB with the Banner of Clan Superiority helps a lot with swarmy armies. Those extra CR can make or break you. So, the Seer, BSB, and their unit (Clannies for numbers, Stormvermin for killyness), 3-5 more units of Clanrats (with weapons teams for extra punch), Slaves (don't shell out too much, they're meant to take charges, redirect, or just get in the way), Giant Rats, Monks with the Furnace, Jezzails, GRs, an Assassin, and the like should give you a good sized horde with plenty of bite behind it. |

It's true, but i've thinked that with a lot of sleeves and clanrats (you know better than me that the clans in the bell unit can be really strong with the bell bonus and the same for the monks on the furnace) is not important what i lose in the fight, the 50% of the points it's represented by the bell and the furnace units, and for the enemy it's really hard to kill almost 140 models in 6 turns... it's the infestation logic, you can kill a lot of units but you cannot defeat all... so, it's an opinion, and i'm happy to know others ideas ![]() AL |

Slaves explode when they break, so spending more than the barest of minimums on them is kinda wasteful. They're the ultimate expendable unit. The Clannies with the Bell are unbreakable, but they aren't immortal. Having some real hard hitters to protect them is probably a good idea. With such a big unit, they don't have to kill them, just tie them up while they run down your other units and rack up VPs. |

Hrm, probably a Bell w/ Stormvermin, 2-3 clanrat units, Weapon Teams, Jezzails, Gutter Runners and Doomwheels or Abominations. Big anvil units backed by mean fighty, shooty, and magic elements. Adding Doom Flayers, PCBs, Doomwheels, Abominations, and even Rat Ogres can give you some fairly hard hitting units to flank with. Giant Rats and Night Runners are cheap flankers and good for protecting your flanks. |
