cheese.......
Does anyone have this where they felt individual becuase they collected skaven? We aren't the world most popular race. Yet with the arrival of the new book etc ive seen swarms of people suddenly collecting skaven and its really annoying.

Does anyone else feek the same?
Hopefully this will pass.....

no, I don't care frankly who colllects them! I have collected them since 1995!

The bandwagon jumpers usually jump off the bandwagon when the next competitive army comes along.

Similar to Drrat - I've been collecting skaven since 5th ed, and I have the models to prove it. It really doesn't bother me who plays what, providing they play*!

(* this is a different worry - I've seen several people express the view that they will refuse to play against anyone with the new skaven book :( whingers...)

Really sorry for destroying your individuality.

You could pick up Ogres to restore it though. Or knitting.
;)

@ Rats&Goblins: What? People refuse to play against the new Skaven...? OK. That should make for a real short list of opponents, because I assume they also refuse to play DoC, VC, DE and Lizardmen. And propably Empire because cannons are so mean.

Bunny ear says flop

Actually, the same thing happened with the 6th edition release. Skaven were assumed to be 'the' tournament army due to their massed shooting/ magic options, which they proved to be and caused many to start playing Skaven. After a couple of months, some people dropped the Skaven for other (newer) armies and with the start of the 7th editions (when weapon teams suddenly had those big signs on top of them saying "Shoot me... SHOOT ME!") that number became even more.

I expect to see a sharp rise of Skaven players for the next couple of months, though give it a month or two, three and the number will dwindle.

You forgot HE. ASF is so rude.

Meh. I guess we will have something to thank Beastmen for, when their book surfaces. Sorry, they ambush.

Me feeble hope is, that amongst the suspected massive amount of new players, some will truely feel at home with Skaven and contribute (in a positive way) on our path to world domination. *bsb*

Another nice thing about skaven is, that there are no fluffwise obstacles for infighting.

More Skaven players starting up is great.

After the clan-wars we get their breeders and all the rats they put up on eBay when the next Flavor of the Month shows up..

Shennanigans are out of the question!
Yup. plus, the newbies wont have fully painted armies like I do.

It will be apparent in play style and painting who are the real skaven.

I'll raise a glass to that! ^_^
There will always be a gap between bandwagon players, and those who have invested time and effort into their Skaven. No new release will ever change that ^_^

Let it be noted that I harbor no ill will towards people picking up Skaven because of the new book. Everybody started somewhere and I know if I were new I wouldn't appreciate being treated like I wasn't a real Skaven player just because I only got interested because of the new book (nobody likes starting an army just before they get redone, plus the older models were kinda fugly).

There's always an element of "ooh shiny" when a new book comes out, I know I'm guilty of it for pretty much every army since DE (and every 40k army too!). But that doesn't make anybody's army any less valid. Some will like the plastyle, models, fluff, welcoming attitude of veteran players (*ahem*), or whatever and they'll stick around. Others may not be as big of a fan and they'll move on to something that fits them better or whatever is the next new shiny thing. Either way, more Skaven stuff sells, GW gets monies to fund more awesome army books, and we get to scavenge off of their leavings.

ill be entirely honest here, I bought the skaven book when it was released 6th edition and read it cover to cover, loved the background but hated the miniatures...they really put me off. Fickle I know!

I'm absolutely amazed to hear people won't play the new skaven, we are probably the least powerful 7th ed army so far (except O&G, maybe empire)
