Meh. I am currently rating it in the middle, but need to read more. Lost something, gained something. Lots of options though, which is a good thing. |

Good: Better Rat Ogres, Doomwheel back in, cheaper units overall, useful Master Moulders, Engineer Versatility, Swarms are useful again Bad: Busted Abomination, Unbreakable units, Busted Abomination, streamlined WLC rules, loss of some cool magic items, overdone weapon teams, Busted Abomination, non-skirmish Night Runners, 'exploding' Slaves, Hero level Deathmaster, loss of Lead from the back and Life is cheap!' rules, Busted Abomination, extremely limited packmaster numbers, and finally, the Busted Abomination. That sums it up for me. Ive enjoyed the 2 games ive had so far with the new book, but I have taken a very conventional Moulder/Horde force which has avoided alot of the wierd new units. I am very much impressed with some features of the new book, but am extremely dissapointed in others. GW have removed alot of the cool stuff that made Skaven a 'unique' army, and streamlined us badly. But the book could have been much, much worse (looks at Daemons book). Overall? Id rate it a 6 - Sammy |

I'm on the same line with Sammy. The book has some good points, but also some bad points. (A hero level Deathmaster Snikch is, in my opinion, something of disgrace). Overall, I give it a six as well. Greetz |

I think it's great. It's powerful while balanced and has a lot of variety between viable lists. If we get more Fantasy books like this the game might end up as fun as 40k. I'm bummed about losing characterful stuff like IF on a 13, but every other awesome bit makes up for it. |

I gave it a 7. Positives: Huge fluff section and lots n lots of shiny new toys. So many it's hard to make a horde list and still fit a few in... I also LOVE the new PCB's. Move to special and don't require 1-1 with monks (or monks at all, though PCBs without monks are about as fluffy as rock). And 3 attacks + gas is just sick. Better hero and mage options and Ld. 7 for Seers is also great. Now we've got tonnes of satisfactory hero/lord options. Big improvement. Negatives: BUT the restriction on LIfe is Cheap was terrible. That rule made me start playing Skaven! At least it can still be used on slaves and by PWGs, so OK. THEN there's the near total loss of Lead from the Back. This was also terrible. Both rules matched the fluff perfectly. Oh well... I also dislike the loss of skirmishing for Jezzails and NR. Especially NR. Now we've got, what, 5 choices for ranked units? (slaves, rats, NR, clanrats, monks, vermin). No, SIX! But a complete lack of reasonably priced (ie- "hordey") units that are mobile enough to help keep fast cav, flyers, and other skirmishers in check. meh. I'm also disappointed in Snikch, and the lack of protection for weapon teams [though I can't wait to try out my luck with mortars taking shelter behind their unit, scattering double but not having to worry about partial hits]. Overall: So the loss of army-wide special rules was extremely disappointing, but the addition of shiny new toys and unexpected positives mitigates this somewhat. |

I'm with what the general opinion so far. The loss of some great rules is a major blow. The attempt at balancing out stuff like ratlings, warplightning and WFTs was commendable, but as Stinky said elsewhere, they pretty much neutralised that benefit by unbalancing other stuff... <_< The massive variety we get though is quite nice, whereas 6th edition was quite limited, especially considering there were very few builds that could work effectively, leading to most army lists looking very similar. I'm giving this book a 7, however, mainly for bringing back lots of the old fluff that would otherwise have been lost, and also for creating the opportunity for some creative conversion work. |

I never was really into skaven because of the models. But I really like them now with all the new miniature line. All in all I really like the new book I think they can compete very well in every phase of the game and for the most part the army can be tailored to face down any foe. I think they have hideously powerful magic and the new best monster in the game, great shooting, and the ability for great combat. I think this army can go toe to toe with daemons now and will be rightly feared whenever they are faced. | ||

I like it, for the most part! Not a 10, but certainly a 9 for me. Disappointed that Snikch got nerfed, but with all the other wonderful psychotic insanity available, well... I don't mind. Fresh fluff, awesome characters, new minis... Yes, I'm very pleased with the new release. |

I'm with you. You can be naggy about the loss of the special rules, but it isn't realy such a big loss anyway. You can still fire into slaves and globadiers can still fire into everything. I do think they have gone a bit OTT with the HA, but I really love them so much! I'll be taking two of them And I'm with the rest of you that Snitch is a bit dissapointing. Shame... But still, the wonderful moddels and the great addition of many good rules/units makes it total up for me. I gave it a 8 |
