hey all. i've been thinking lately about the different races and how they all are based on something from the real world, but what are skaven based on?

so my first thought was ancient rome, as:

A. they have a leadership council, just like the roman senate

B. they are very technologically advanced for the based time period

C. there armor is similar (and i stress simillar) to the lorica segmentata of the roman legionaries.

your thoughts my ratty brethren?

I think the skaven have just hung in there mainly because they where mythic!

While this didn't do them any favors it didn't give them rubbish history either.

The hole going under radar he must be ranting about beastmen! I quiet like.

As far as races go there probably more like the empires of old like persia who had massive slave armies and main stream armies they used the slaves to tire there enemies before sending in the real troops.

The remake of 300 springs to mind.

in 300 the persian's did not send in slaves, but a massive wave of persian light infantry, similar to clanrats. i guess the skaven could have been influenced by persia, but i still see a strong resemblance to ancient rome.

The lurker in the shadows
The skaven always reminded me of japan's Sengoku, warring states, period even down to Nobunaga Oda dieing to the treachery of one of his generals. They even had a council known as the Council of five regents near the end of the period that fought amongst them selves as the last major conflict in the era.

thats an interesting thought. considering my secondary route was the chinese waring states period, specifically the chin, who had approx 1 million soldiers.

I would have thought a topic of this nature would be pinned? As it would no doubt come up every 3-4 new members who join?
