How do we use our assassins in the new edition? Post suggestions, general questions and answers based on facts. As in "We have the book and read it too" Remember GW copyrights and abstain from quoting statlists, rules etc. Let the creativity flow so the lesser races learn to fear Eshin assassins again

A bit of double topics, but this: http://underempire.net/index.php?showtopic=30135 also contains rumours. The following are my immediate opinions. Not playtested. What did we gain? ASF. Take that pointy-ears. A much needed and solid ward save. Better and cheaper smokebombs. Some (perhaps) useful items as the Infernal Bomb. Too bad it isn't hidden. Assassins can now also hide in slaveunits. If you dare. They can join tunnelteams. If you dare. And the ability to enter from tableedges. What did we lose? Assassins didn't get cheaper. They are now a bit more expensive. Lost 1 pt in Ld. Weeping blade got weaker but also cheaper. We can't take the Brass Orb anymore. Skryre only. Isolated I certainly don't mind the price for the wardsave. But why the lower Ld? So the Deathmaster could be lowered too, but still higher than ordinary assasin? <_< The WarpstoneStar wielding assassin will still be my first choise. Then perhaps the Blade of Corruption. Almost like the 6th WeepingBlade but with a risk. And cheaper. Sadly we can only count on Skitterleap if fielding a Grey Seer. Or Vermin Lord. MUTATED: due to points in the answer from BV below. Bugger me ole eyes. |

Assasins have now been reduced to a more supplimental role for our units, sure losing skitterleap was a blow but now the assasin can be in tunnel and flanking units. You also forgot that assasins are now ASF that combined with the 4+ ward save compared to what they used to be, I'm happy they didn't hike the price as much as they did because those two things are huge, it effectively doubles the assasins survivability with the ward save while making it so he can still limit the attacks coming back at his unit thanks to the ASF, Having the assasin in a unit is extremely beneficial to that units survival as it will bring down the ammount of attacks returning on his unit even when charged. He also benefits from the flanking rule that means you can get him near where you want him to be even without skitterleap. In my opinion Assasins got a pretty good buff to them especially since their dark elf equivilant although cheaper doesn't get half the stuff from the start that our squeakers do! |

I was really disappointed that the assassin isnt immune to psychology. I would love to run around with a warpstone star throwing assassin but im not sure he is worth it when testing terror on a 7. |

overall i think assasins became more useful. but, they've also got a pretty steep price tag. i don't think i'll take them. |

They've got a lot more utility this time around, even if they're a little less deathy. You can have them coming from table edges, scouting, hidden and popping out of tunnels at the same time! (how many times have we wished for that ) plus things like the different bombs and nets are handy, not to mention that some of that stuff is passed down to the rest of the Eshin list as well.I'd say there'll be less cases where he can go off and kill on his own now, but the potential for surprise is way more prevalent. Actually I now have a dream of having an assassin setting up the Bomb infront of some hapless slaves and watching as some Bloodthirster comes charging in, landing right on top of it

I like the new Assassins and though they may not be as powerful as there DE cousins they are still worth taking. If you want to see my complete opinions on them you should check out the assassin section in my 7th ed tactics article. |

Here is a crazy thought I just had about Assassins: Warpmusket. With BS5 and range of 24" of the warpmusket, these guys are real sharpshooters. Sure the warpstone stars might be the usual choice for most ranged assassins, however the musket being much cheaper allows room for other things. Also, the warpmusket would out range and out damage the assassin's default stars. This could complement the Inferno Bomb well, once the bomb is in place, just run around firing the gun into blocks of troops, or at other choice targets. Also, this particular build would show off my two favourite clans. Not that the Greater Clans work together or anything... |

The Assassin could even stand out in the open (assuming not much shooting). Standing atop the bomb would give a good vantage point... and quite the deterrence for enemies to charge. Of course you don't actually stand dirrectly on the bomb, you stand with it between you and the enemy so that they can take the "full blast(?)"!! Bahahaha!! Charge reaction? RUN RUN RUN! Be glad you have +1 to run away!! Not very Eshin... it is a very Skryre type of a tactic. One that would be very interesting to see in play ^^ <- inferior race thinking about charging <- someone set us up the bomb <- "BRING IT ON!!"
