Greetings all. Advert time! ![]() As some of you may be aware, I started to organise an event some time ago, which essentialy will be a week long painting challenge, where the aim is to build and paint a 1000 point legal army (for fantasy or 40K). This will be done possibly in groups, and it can be done alone as well. It will be for a week in January, where we aim to get as many people doing it at the same time as possible, and hopefully with a few groups meeting up to do it as well. Those that can't meet up can do it alone and also if you can't do it in the week most people are, then you can do it for the duration of any of the weeks in January. ![]() For full information, see THIS THREAD! For a poll for determining the main week date, see THIS THREAD! Feel free to use the information thread, or indeed this one to come up with ideas and possibly form groups. What more could you want out of a week than a brand new, fully built and painted 1000 point army, a load of friends and a truck load of PRS points eh?

I scored some cheap Brettonian figures on ebay so I'm [strike]in[/strike]. Edit: Nevermind, I just figured out a list (about 40 models) and there's no way I could paint it in just a week. |

If you only wanted to do it part time, ie - not assembling and priming each model, then you could do it in the non-hardcore group. This means that you start with all your models assembled and primed and just have to paint them. ![]() I've worked out a few possible armies; Dwarves Characters Thane - hand weapon, gromril armour, shield runic axe - swiftness, cleaving, fury armour - stone Master engineer - Great weapon, pistol Core 20 warriors - full command - heavy armour, shields 20 warriors - full command - heavy armour, shields 10 thunderers Special Cannon + 3 crew Rare Flame cannon + 3 crew --- Total = 1001 points Models = 60 (2 large, 2 characters) --- Vampire Counts Characters Vampire - Tomb blade, flayed hauberk Necromancer - extra spell, black periapt Core 20 zombies - standard, musician 20 skeletons - standard, musician 10 crypt ghouls - ghast 5 dire wolves - doom wolf Corpse cart - unholy lodestone Special 4 Fell bats Rare Varghulf --- Total = 1000 points Models = 63 (2 large, 2 characters) --- Problems with the VC's is that the zombies and corspe cart will be fiddly and time consuming to paint, but that will be made up for slightly by the quick skeletons. Has anyone else got any potential armies planned yet? Feel free to post them up, you might inspire someone. ![]() I will post more as I go! |

Anyone else thought about what armies they would like to do for the event? I've been desperately trying to work out a do-able Imperial Guard army, as I desperately want one, cause they are fun and the tanks are awesome.

I think this is a brilliant idea,as i said when you Painting and hobby rats first suggested it. I'm going to be choosing Skaven as my army for this, great excuse to actually try to paint an army, and besides,I'll be reciveing a fair bit of Skaven models for Xmas if i'm lucky. Cheers, Mike. |

As much as I dislike painting power armor, I've had an unassembled rhino with a set of ForgeWorld Space Wolf doors for years, maybe this is the spark I need to get that going. I have a ton of Chaos Space Marine parts in my bitz boxes too, hmmm... MZ Mutate - I just had a revelation... I can use the sweet new wolf guard terminators for Space Hulk. This is looking more and more like a possibility for me. I voted in the poll, any week but the first, my wife has her birthday that week, that will severely crimp my ability to get an army done. |

Aha! Looks like a few more are getting involved. ![]() I've worked out a small ish Wood Elf army I could do, but I have all the models already and all assembled, so I probably won't go for that choice. I did work out an imperial guard army, which I desperately want because I like guard cause they are kind of Skaven like. Plus they have awesomely cool tanks! ![]() The army is as follows; HQ Company command squad - commander > las pistol, power weapon - 4 veterans > medi pac, standard, vox, heavy flamer Troops Platoon command squad - commander > bolt pistol, sword - 4 veterans > vox, heavy flamer Infantry squad - 1 plasma gun Infantry squad - 1 plasma gun Veteran squad - 1 flamer, 1 grenade launcher, bolt pistol (sgt) Heavy weapons squad - 3 mortars Fast Attack Armoured sentinel - lascannon Heavy Bassilisk Lemun Russ battle tank Lemun Russ Punisher Total = 999 points 46 models, 3 tanks and 1 sentinel. This would be an amazing army, but I dont think i'd be able to assemble it all as well as paint it all, due to the 3 tanks.

Looks like a good list Scar although i reckon it'd take the whole week just to assemble the whole lot, nevermind paint. One thing i would change on the list is the heavy weapons squad,2 mortars and a lascannon in one unit seems a bad idea to me.I'd go for 3 mortars or even 3 heavy bolters. I might actually change my army to Empire as i have the army book and 20 troops already(most unassembled) and so i could be planning it out already. We'll see if i can resist the new Skaven models first though. Cheers, Mike. |

I'm waiting to get to my LGS to get the new Space Wolves codex to see if I want to do them or chaos again. I'll probably go DIY if I go chaos, none of the named legions really hold any sway over me anymore. I've been toying with a Spawn themed paint scheme for two or three years now that may need to come to fruition. Did I mention how much I love/hate 40K? I get all giddy and I can't think straight. *sigh* Darn you for making me consider a 40K army again... MZ |

Yeah your right mikey, i've changed it to 3 mortars. If I did do this army, which is a very distinct possability, I think i'd have to assemble it first and just paint and base it. That would be ok, but i'd idealy like to be in the hardcore group and assemble my army as well. The 46 troops would be ok, its just the 3 tanks as well. Never assembled a tank before.......how difficult is it? |

The New Lunar Republic!

It depends really, the most effective method for Leman Russes is assembling the chassis and the other parts, like turrets seperately, then gluing them together at the end, along with any decoration you wish to add. For the basilisk, it is a bit different from the others, but I think you'll be best off assembling the carriage and the gun seperately, as from what I've heard, it's best to paint it before gluing the gun on, or it's a bit of a nightmare, really. Overall, I can finish assembling a tank like the Leman Russ in a maximum of around half an hour, the basilisk maybe a bit longer, due to unfamiliarity. Overall, it's not that difficult, but one word of caution, follow the instruction sheet carefully if this is your first time with a tank, or you'll regret it later (I know from personal experience :P) Hope this helps, -Killfang |

Cheers blader. Yeah, I shall be following that instruction sheet very carefully mate. ![]() 3 tanks would take at least 4.5 hours to assemble then at a guess, giving it 1.5 hours per tank. Then i'd have say 13.5 hours to assemble the other stuff, if I assume i'm going to work for 18 hours on the first day. Hmmm......it might be do-able, but its really going to be a hell of a slog. I'd be planning to paint up the guardsmen in pretty simple scheme and decided to go for Cadians, as they have less skin on them and look simple enough to paint. So if i could do 15- 20 a day, that would mean I would have all the assembling and half the infantry painted in 3 days. It could be possible! *Vague hope/missplaced optimism* You going to join in blader? |

As Blader says the time varies on how you go about the assembly. When i did my Russ i did it the same way as blader and had it finished in roughly an hour without adding extra details. I remember a friend a few years ago spent the better part of a night carefully assembling a Russ only to find he'd done the tracks wrong. Scar-any ideas on the scheme? Cheers, Mike. |

I'm pretty slow and anal about assembling stuff, making sure absolutely all mould lines have been removed. <_< Not sure on the scheme yet, but probably very similar to the Cadian scheme in the Codex. Maybe swapping the brown clothing out for a dark grey. Not sure yet! |

Sorry for the double post guys, but I need to get as many of you as possible to vote in the poll, to select a date for most of us to do this event! ![]() Prepare For War Poll Thread! Please vote, if you haven't already and lets organise it so as many of us as possible can do this at the same time for maximum fun and friendly competition. ![]() *UBER MUTATE (and bump)* Just putting up some ideas for my possible way of going about doing that large IG army, in the week from the perspective of the full time group. Hopefully would like to keep people posting their ideas and also voting in the poll thread, linked above too. ![]() Itinerary Ideas For IG Army Day 1 Assemble: 3 tanks (6 hours) Sentinel (1 hour) 20 Guard (3 hours) Company command squad (1 hour) Undercoat: 20 Guard Bassilisk Total = 11 hours! Epic day, but necessary!Day 2 Assemble: Platoon command squad (1 hour) 10 guard (1.5 hours) 3 heavy weapon teams (1.5 hours) Undercoat: All remaining models! Paint: Test Guard model Bassilisk Slightly more relaxing day, but all models assembled and undercoated, with the test model painted and a tank done! Day 3 Paint: 19 Guard Base: 20 Guard Simple slog of painting loads of guard production style! Day 4 Paint: Platoon command squad 3 heavy weapon teams Base: Platoon command squad 3 heavy weapon teams Break up the storm of infantry with some more interesting models. Day 5 Paint: Lemun Russ 5 Guard Base: 5 Guard 5 Guard, then tank. Should be do-able and not too boring! Day 6 Paint: Lemun Russ Punisher 5 Guard Base: 5 Guard See day 5 comments! Day 7 Paint: Sentinel Company command squad Base: Sentinel Company command squad A relatively easy end, followed by a collapse into blissfull unconciousness no doubt! ---- Essentialy after the first 3 days I will have 'broken the back' of the main body of work and the rest should just be enjoyable mini projects for each day! ![]() Total vvp's = 237 Total PRS points = 23+ (23 for vvp's and whatever hours are done) Not a bad haul of PRS points, im sure you'd agree, plus a fully painted 1000pt army to show for it at the end.
