I Am The Monster
just a quick question, whose got a seventh edition army book?

i know the following armies have them.

O&G
High Elves
Dark Elves
DoC
WoC
Skaven(soon)
VC(i think)
Empire(I think)
Lizardmen

and i think the following have only a sixth, but am only sure about wood elves.

BoC
Wood Elves
Bretonnia

that leaves the following in the dark

tomb kings
ogre kingdoms
dwarves

somebody fill me in please? thanks :)

Tomb Kings and Ogre Kingdoms are sixth. Dwarves came out with O&G.

Chaos Dwarves are still legal, though who knows how long it has been since their last update...

Dwarves came out at the tail end of 6th, but they're still 6th. Yes, they had another armybook in 6th, but their current one came before the new rules.

Chaos Dwarfs use Ravening Hordes for the rules for their army. It's 6th, and was released as a hold over while the army books were released.
Twisted, evil, treacherous, and diabolical rats wielding arcane technologies that are dangerous to foe and friend, that care not for their kin and are constantly plotting against each other. What more need I say about what makes Skaven cool?

Have spare little rats from the old clanrats, current plague monks, corpse cart, or individual rats from the doom wheel? PM me. I want them. 30 more needed.

A collection of gamers (on this side of the pond) have made a Chaos Dwarf list, that is (or will most likely be) accepted in all major independent tournaments. Kind of like a published house rules, but since GW has sat on them forever, I figure why not let a consensus of gamers, expound agreeably, upon a segment of the business long left in the dust until GW elects to bring them forward again?

But these rules obviously still don't count officially for the purposes of GW initiated events, so yeah, Ravening Hordes late borderland of 6th edition.

Dwarves were simultaneously written with the 7th edition book so were made for 7th edition even though they were released before the latest edition. The reason they did this was because dwarves have no magic so did not require the new edition. Technically they are a 7th edition army though even though they were released before 7th edition book.

Jester's right about the Dwarves, the only change that really affected them was changing a complete rank from 4 to 5 strong, everything else remained the same for them.

and yet Dwarves, if they are a 7th edition book, are the only army to have characters that take up a lord and a hero choice.

This clearly says to me that the dwarf book is 6th edition considering that none of the 7th edition books have any character that takes up more that one hero/lord slot.

Well as far as i can remember reading them all....

I think Dwarfs are kind-of a 6.5 edition army. They look as if they are 7th ed but in the Dwarf book it does state that a rank is 4 across.

I suppose you're right, they have some things that make no sense for 7th edition (e.g. 4-wide ranks) but they were created with 7th edition in mind.

Also the dwarf book has like 3 special characters, none of which are listed alongside the standard Lord/Hero choices. Whereas all the 7th edition books I can think of have anywhere from 6 to 10 specials listed right alongside the regular characters.
