Whether it's "cheesy as hell" could possibly depend on your gaming group and boards. My friends usually have much more long range shooting, [...]

Fair enough.

It was partially the reason why I asked Rusty whether his regular opponents are competitive, or not. Here at the UE GT we've had several games of Mordheim and there is one warband that has more slings then the others (app. 50% percent of a warband, compared to the others having less then 25%), which gives it a much bigger edge... So if the warbands he faces are less competitive (read: all-out shooting), going all-out on slings tends to, in my experience, end up being less liked games.

Nope, the free dagger can NEVER be given away :P

Not even if it is "given" to someone's back? I know of this dwarf, see... :P

@ Vinz: I don't know how these folks are as opponents. I just moved here. I am a pretty laid back player though and though I am competitive, I don't thrive on winning. So I dropped all but three slings. I can get more before the second game, as well as a flail for my Priest.

I dropped all my helmets and have gotten to 13 models. I won't know the final roster until I roll for spells and the cost of the scroll. (Of course purchasing the scroll depends on the spell I get...)

1st game is tonight!!! Leaving my house in a few moments. Wish me
GOOD luck. ;)

Are you allowed to buy scroll after rolling for magic?

Well... the game was good. I voluntarily routed because it was getting really late and I wanted to drop in at a party my firend was hosting. (And my wife was tehre already so I had to pick her up before someone else tried to! B) ). UtE, I'll post a battle report somewhere - maybe a new thread since it is a campaign. (And those posts will be my battle reports for the Underdark Campaign.) I'll give you a teaser though:

Because it was the first night it was a multiplayer game - 10 players. There were wood elves, dark elves, Lustrian dark elves, undead, Mariensburg, pirates, one more I can't remember, and THREE SKAVEN WARBANDS!!! (Two Eshin and my Pestilens list.) The GM started off by giving everyone a few goodies - I got the Liturgicus Infecticus and a Plague Dagger. On top of the 10 warbands, the GM had the city lashing out at the warbands with random beasts - killing them earned you "trophies". The other two Skaven forces were attacked with squigs and GRats. I was attacked with a friggin' Possessed! Fear causing, 4 attacks... It would have eventually routed me, I'm sure. It single handedly took 4 of my guys off the table and showed no signs of stopping.

Anyhow, I knocked over a chaos alter and scurried into the stonework at 11:30 PM, went to the party and played banjo until 3:30 am... SO tired!

Battle report pending. And I'll post links for pics, too. Folks were taking tons of pictures.

Get your priorities straight.

1. Picking up your wife: check
2. Did you have fun at the game? : ?????
3. Other comments/report etc:

A possessed---ouch. I got a rookie warband of those too. Gory details please.
You probably could have used a few more slings then. I aim for not more than half of the team.

Congratz. You have now played the same amount of Mordheim games, as I have :P

Well I started the battle reps, but am already 2 games behind. :( I'll catch up this week though.

In the meantime, I have had several folks increase:
Monk #1 (whomped a zombie) received +1 WS (opted for that since he is my censer bearer)
Initiate #1 gains a skill
Initiate #2 (whomped a Pirate Mage w/ a sling!) gained +1 BS (opted for that over WS)
One Claw of Novices gained +1 A - buying them 2nd clubs!
My Rat familiar will be gaining a skill, too, but I forgot to roll for it.

So... what skill would you opt for with an initiate? Their stat line is horrendous, but clearly skewed for shooting (WS 2, BS 3). I thought of giving him the Weapons Expert skill and equipping him w/ a crossbow - 30", S4. There are at least 2 other warbands that are very shooty because black powder weapons have better rules in this league (one band is 11 Reiklanders and all but one have firearms!)

I'm open to other suggestions though.

The New Lunar Republic!
Well, maybe give the initiate "Dodge" as he won't want to be in combat, and needs some defence against enemy shooting.

Quick Shot, hands down. No move = 4 shots with a Sling! ^_^

I got a crossbow for one of my Eshin night runners, it's very fun to have at least one guy who shoots more than 18". If you get better BS for him later then he'll be a good threat, covering your advance. And it's very fun to model, check out my model in my army diary if you haven't already.

I do have some battle reports up now in this thread: http://underempire.net/index.php?showtopic=29534

As to last game, I took quickshot. It didn't amount to much though. And I found a blunderbuss and have no one to use it now. *shrug* Next game.

I did get several advances in Game 3 that I'd love some suggestions for. In particular, I have to choose a skill for my sorceror and Plague Priest. For the Priest I've been thinking of fearsome, as "fear" is both fluffy and useful. However, while it is less fluffy, "unstoppable charge" would be great for the +1 WS on the charge. Hissleskit uses a flail which only lends the strength bonus in the first round of combat... Also, Sprint is a thought, as a 15" charge range would be fantastic. It would certainly take folks by surprise and with a couple of giant rats to accompany him, he wouldn't be left unsupported when he enters combat.

As for my spellcaster, Klostrid, I cannot decide if generating a new spell is the best plan. "Sorcery" would assist him when casting his current level 8 spell, and "Wyrdstone Hunter" would also rock, but I've got a hireling that allows to add/subtract one pip on a die, and a warpstone amulet that has been allowing me to make a reroll.

Thoughts?
