As noble as the Lizards try to advertise themselves as I can make a case for them being the closest thing to evil as exists. Such hyper conservative motivations and trying to carry out the will of these faceless ancient ones without having any real clue as to what their ultimate goal was is the kind of blind faith that encourages violent intolerance towards anything and everyone that doesnt see things from exactly the same perspective. And it only stands to reason that if Lizards are the ultimate evil and the rats are the exact opposition to the lizards...

Which is quite violent, antisocial behaviour, I reckon, tsk tsk. I'm sure in the real world a government that attacks and kills anyone who visits their country would be considered very bad.

speaking as a trained catechist, and someone who enjoys ethical discussions above just about everything else, let me say this. in order to define who is a 'good race' and who is a 'bad race' you're going to have to define good and evil. however, i would strongly suggest you don't. internet debates on good and evil usually turn ugly very quickly since people usually have very different ideas of good and evil. you'd think it would be simple, but believe me, you can shred just about any idea of absolute morality(what is undeniably good) with a bizarre hypothetical situation. i would submit that by most definitions the warhammer world is grey and is designed(largely) for you to project your own ideas of right and wrong onto your race. also because your army doesn't necessarily have to reflect the rest of your race you could have a benign skaven army, or some evil bretonnians. basically what i'm trying to say is that this thread will eventually become a discussion on the nature of good and evil. something that, in my experience, can only be had between people who have tremendous respect for each other. and is disatrous in most other cases. although i must say i'm impressed that people have not only kept it civil, but actually upbeat, that almost never happens. |
The best way to configure an army is to go play demons.-Nevamore Posted on Nov 6 2009, 04:02 PM

Yep welcome to the UE. Kid friendly extraordinaire, just keep them out of the fluff section. The crew I normally game with have done these kinds of teams so many times I can't count them all. Usually its just a who wants to play with who kinda thing, but occasionally we try the good vs evil battle too. Though some armies are more inherently neutral then good or evil, think D&D factions. If you think about it, Skaven are a bit neutral. They care only about themselves and of Skavendom, so they are willing to fight on either side as long as it benefits themselves, a bit like a bunch of picky mercenaries. Any mercenary type groups are generally neutral such as ogre kingdoms and dogs of war, and those types that kill anything that enters there domain could be neutral too since they don't discriminate on what they kill, such as wood elves and lizardmen. So sometimes we play with neutral vs evil armies. A bit weird, but it still works.. Most of the time. |

Ya, I guess lizardmen are pretty neutral, we don't go out of our jungles in a killing spree, but if you come into the jungles, your as good as chaos to us- and we hate chaos VERY much |

The UE is remarkably good with delicate discussions, which is an amazing thing for an online forum about evil ratmen. ![]() Good and Evil, like taste in music, is a matter of perspective, I reckon, so like what Riddick said it's a matter of what ideals you project on your army. The armies are designed to appeal and each army is flexible enough to fit with a range of ideals, though human tastes are varied enough that almost anything can appeal to them. Chaos is evil or badass, depending on your personal alignment. Chaos is about the human condition, about being who you are, a human and all the emotions that come with it. Khorne appeals to those who like raging barbarians who are ultimate warriors personified, living for nothing but the glory of battle and self-betterment via combat. Slaanesh is about pleasure, decadence, the whole sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll scene. Tzeentch is about power and cunning, and their style is very artistically surreal, pretty much true chaos. Nurgle may be about disease and their models look literally like snot, but the "ugly snotballs that live as a happy family" theme is quirky and cute. |
