Not sure if this is the proper forum for this, but...

How do you case and transport your armies? When I purchased my army from a friend, half of the models were in a tackle box and half were in a cardboard box. Needless to say they get banged pretty bad and I'm constantly re-attaching limbs and shields. Most of the people at the hobby shop I game at either allow them to get mangled in similar ways, or have purchased the rather expensive official warhammer cases.

Anybody have a suggestion that will keep my rats safe, yet not break the bank?

Foam slots, like the GW ones can be purchased cheaply on-line, stick them in a large cardboard box, and you're all set.

I place my models in a shoe-box, and they seem to do OK, then again, I don't really travel with them

I take mine around in a tool box with a large top handle, I get funny stares when I'm walking down town with it, "A female handyman? Heavens forbid!"
Shhhh I'm not here

I get funny stares all the time when I cradle my GW case in public (can I help it if I love my skaven? )

One time someone shouted "Suitcase w**nker at me.
Sound familiar??? :P

this happend many years ago i had my gw black case painted up with skaven symbols and i was walking inside the model to the shop and i got mall security stop and ask me what was in the case :P he later told me he thought it was a bomb lol... i just looked at him <_< you serious? and to get back to the post when im lazy i just have my units of clanrats intheir bases magnetized inside the army box they came in. but i usually have them in my gw big case in regiment bases so they fit nice and tough and take up allot less space for the rest of my non regimented units

I bought cardboard cases from Kaiser Rushforth. I'll buy some more soon, for my expanding armies.

Indeed KR multicase is my method of choice & particularly efficient if you are part of a club and all band together for a 'large' order. Even the basic cardboard design is reasonable cheep protection that makes transport easy.
Currently joint first in PRS points, may as well blow my trumpet whilst I've got one.

I bucked the trend and did it the good ol' Clan Skyre way. I made my own!

I bought a couple of plastic food containers, some foam stuff that gets put in cushions and a big bag with wheels on it (which was very hard to come by, as I wanted to be able to fit ALL the food containers into one bag. I probably looked really wierd stuffing containers into empty bags in the luggage stores I visited...).

I lined each container with a thin sheet of foam, cut thicker pieces of foam to fit the insides of the containers, traced the outlines of each of my movement trays in the thicker foam, cut out the little square holes and viola! Instant army transport case!

I can fit about 4 RnF units in each container, plus around 20 skirmisher/character models. And the added bonus of all this is, because each miniature hole snugly fits each movement tray and attached miniatures, I dont have to worry about putting everything back on movement trays when I turn up somewhere for a game! Its all pack and play!
You kids these days have it so easy, what with your Plague Furnaces and your Hellpit Abominations and your Bonebreaker Warlords. Back in MY day, all we had was Slaves and Clanrats!...and auto-hit Ratling Guns...and skirmishing Jezzails...and 2D6 Warp Lightning...and Lead From The Back...wait, what was my arguement again?

I must admit I have two GW cases - one small and one large. But other than those I just buy new Figures in Comfort foam trays for each army and swap them out as needed.

I use the small GW case. I tried making something of my own, but i failed at cutting the foam the way i wanted.

Wherever Halceon is, i'm sure he's looking down on us right now. No, he's not dead, mind you, he's just very condescending.
