Made of 110% Skaven!

Well, since my topic got closed... I like it. Everything from the campaign system to the two different play modes it's great. You can choose to play it just like the regular game (using the exact same rules as the tabletop) or with a few little changes that make it easier to get some extra funds. Personally, I think the AI likes to turtle the ball carrier a little too much, and skaven are utterly ridiculous to face off against (The two turn touchdown), even though playing them is like being the owner of a glass store when a bull runs through it. |

As I don't have a games console, I'm going to buy it for the PC (once you don't have to download, but can just buy the boxed set in stores). Quite interested to see what Cyanide came up with, though if I read Ratemis' quick review, it promises to be a very good game. ![]() Greetz |

I actually came around to playing Skaven again once I got beaten by them enough playing as Orcs, and once I figured out the tactic. Receiving the ball. Two gutter runners up opposite board edges, dodging any opponents. The Opponent can only blitz one, so there will almost always be one that hasn't been hit. Second turn, Thrower runs up, throws the ball to the concious Gutter Runner, Gutter runner dodges out of the tackle zone and straight for the touchdown (Which is easy as Skaven can run 1/3 the field distance in one go). |

initial feedback seems to be 'flawed' - lots of things in there which arent obviously accessed or via a poor user interface. Some comments seem to feel that the download is more a beta version which they got people to pay for and the september release should be better as it will have the patches. Lack of star players for some teams and some fo the inducements are missing (bloodweiser babes for example) so there are no 50K inducements whcih can skew some things a bit. I'm going to have a play round a mates tomorrow night. Also comments are skaven try to play a bashy game, which they aren't really built for and orcs often try for a passing game when they have done a nice cage and wouldnt normally try. Also some slightly random AI blitzes which are not aiding the team etc. Its not quite LRB5, but not far off.... Some think that it is being too close to bloodbowl and so wont appeal to non-players and that it isnt close enough to bloodbowl for those who do, so it fails on both fronts.. I'll have a go and see what I think and let you know... |

Bloodweiser Babes are in there, but only in "Blitz" mode which has all sorts of zanyness and is their "expanded" rules set version I've never seen a skaven team that carries a "Bash" play style (Except one that had a Rat Ogre and a Rat Ogre star player). From all my experience in single player mode the skaven play an extremely fast and agile game. Orcs are incredibly bashy, even with their linemen carrying the ball and blitzing into anyone in their way. They killed half my team in the first half of one game. Never played BB myself, I'm actually learning a lot about the game by playing the computer game and going back into the complete book and reading up on things. One thing I see wrong is that even early in the game almost every AI team will have over 100,000 to spend on inducements, and quickly ramps up from there. Meaning you learn to deal with Star Players and secret weapons early on. PS. I hate secret weapons. |

Well I had a brief play last night and really liked it, although we just couldnt get an online game to work - the connection just kept failing or the invitation failing etc etc. I've got several very techy friends who have been getting very very frustrated with this as when it does work they think it is fantastic..... The animations are good, the game plays like a 'star wars chess' version of the boardgame due to the little animations going on all the time and the commentary. The weird bit was on kick off, it does a noice animation of the team kicking the ball and then goes to a text screen to give a paragraph on the kick off table result - it jars a little as it seems to take you out of the game almost. other than than (and the constant do you wish to follow up when successfully blocking) it seems to run quite smoothly... Sometimes the dice rolling seems to get stuck in a rut - eg the pc controlled human team getting bonehead 4 times running and then the wood elves continually failing 2+ agility rolls for a similar period. But other that that very nice! I'll wait though as there do seem to be alot of bugs with this download and already several patches... hopefully the physical release in september will have ironed all this out by then.... |

I agree on the dice rut, I spent 6 rounds in a single half with both teams trying to pick up the ball and failing (course, we were both using people not best suited for it at the time) |

Grey Seer - Summoner of Verminlords
|
Still has some bugs and stuff to work out but overall its fairly good. Rules are not exactly 5.0 LRB but the basics and alot of the advanced stuff works like it should. Havent come across any in game errors or glitches. The changing of screens between sessions could be smoothed out. Overall I would give it a B+/A-. |

While not for sale in Dutch stores, I've pre-ordered the game and expect it either this weekend, or early next week to come in. I am so going to see how far I can get with Goblins. ![]() Greetz |

After having played the game for a while now, I've got to say that it is simply brilliant! Good cinematics, plays just like the board game, quite fun to do online (unless your internet connection is playing shanenagans with you)... ... Of course, the one downside is the AI. Seriously. 25 matches of Skaven shouldn't lead to the following team. I am glad to hear the game itself is a good one to play, but am heartily disappointed that the XBox 360 version seemed to have been dropped. Quite a nice line up you've got going there Vinz, unbeaten in 25 games though?? Blimey ! |
