I was wondering..I play a normal skaven army..no SAOD and not a horde armie..just normal with not much shootie. How can I win a 2000 pnts battle against a chaos khorne player who uses only undefinedHounds, marauder horsemen and 1 giant He uses his hounds and horsemen to keep his knights save from harm and hits hard after that. If I kill his hounds he had horsemen..if I kill the horsemen than I can kill the 1+save knights..so one way or another he will be in combat and kill every rat I have..or they just run away ![]() I have 2 clanrat units 35 2 slave units 20 WLC plague monks 25 cencers 8 4 ogres 4 giant rat packs 20 night runners 10 gutters 2 ratlings 2 warlocks 1 Warlord or standard bearer 1 assassin 1 plague priest 1 master moulder 4 swarms I really don't like a shooting overkill army so has anuone other tactics for me to overcome my fear for knights ![]() Greets Teferi |

playing skaven vs very cavalry-heavy armies is always difficult, as even the worst fast-cav unit in the game stands a decent chance of breaking a clanrat unit if it hits it in the flank. If you could be more specific on your opponents list it would be a lot easier to help you Just from a glance, I think the problem is your clanrat/slave units getting severely outmanouvered. This could very well be because he has more units to take them on than you have clannie+slave pairs. I've got 3*25 units of clanrats and 3*21 units of slaves in my 1500pt list, and sometimes I feel that's not enough... So 2 pairs in 2000 could very well be a bit to few, but if you have no more clannies or slaves, you can't very well do too much about that, now can you. ![]() Try to post a bit more specific version of his list and I'm sure the listmakers around here can whip up something nice with what you already have.

Shoot up his giant and hounds whilst he apporaches and chuck out your slave units to the fore as bait. If he takes the bait and charges them, then flee with them to set up flank charges. ![]() 2 ranked units in the flank will put paid to most things. He'll get no bonuses for charging, and the horses can't attack back on the flank. I don't think anyway. Possitioning of troops and response to other movements is what wins battles, not army list composition. Of course it helps, but a good general with a bad list can beat any bad general with a tooled up list.

One option could be to try and speed bump his units by using scout gutter runners to try and intercept their path it may be expensive but its generally the best you can hope for is to buy enough time or to seperate his force a bit |

if you still struggle against that list you could always point out it's illegal. hounds don't count towards minimum core and knights and marauder horsemen are special now. he has no core, meaning his army's illegal. it's probs the dirtiest way you can beat the army, and if you already said it's cool that he uses the HoC book still over the piece of trash list in WD then there isn't much you can do other than appeal to his good nature to change his army list to make games more fun. |

Jep, you're right about that last thing. and he will take the bait because he's frenzy, and most of the time your tactic would work perfectly by outnumbering and flanking..the only problem is that he had a mirrored army. Left and right side is (from front to back for me) Hounds, after them the Marauders and after them his knights. In the middel had he got a big ugly giant with a heroe and a lord both on steeds ![]() So what to do about them when he can charge ME in the flanks ![]() greets and thnx, Teferi |

just looking at his list I would use the ratlings to kill the hounds/ mauraders. Use the WLC to hurt the giant. Now with the gutter runners break them up into small units and move them up in a position so that once his screens are broken you run the gutter runners in front of his knights. Positioning is crucial here but make sure your clanrats are back far enough and positioned so that when he charges your gutter runners they flee and get caught resulting in him having to move them the full 16 inches. On you turn assuming you set your units up right you charge his flank. If you have the ability to somehow get another unit of slaves and clanrats this would help you even more. Remember to use his frenzy against him. Use the swarms to tie the giant down for a couple of turns. using the little shooting that you have now should be perfect to take down his army. Remember though to use the ratlings to take down his hounds and mauraders first. These guys are a pain if they attack your rear, but there low save and low toughness will be decimated by the ratling gun. As with all skaven armys flanks will be the key to victory here. Put the RO and PM on each flank so that it will be hard for him to get around you and have the slaves/clanrats in middle. |

WOW that's a detailed tac ![]() It looks like it would work..never had my swarms do good work ![]() but about the WLC..HAHA it always explodes at the first or second round..never used it good but I keep it in the army for fun ![]() I also want to have more slaves and clans but all those rumours about skaven let me wait a bit longer for new miniatures ![]() btw the ratlings always do their job luckily ![]() uhm I think I have enough information to make a masacre next time ![]() thnx ![]() greets Teferi |
