Greetings all, Well I thought I'd sign up and see on the off- chance what Skaven things there might be for MOW, and to hopefully give it a boost as its my fave game... I notice that Vinz has mentioned the sea of claws yahoo group. I strongly recommend a re-visit! http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/theseaofclaws/ I've uploaded images that can be made into 'box proxies' for many of the MOW fleets - skaven of course included. As Skaven are my fave fleet I have alo create box proxies for some new ships so you can take to the high seas and test some of these (dangerous) contraptions. if you join theseaofclaws and then go to the Files section, there is a folder marked 'Fleet folder - skaven'. In here there are all kinds of new devices to bring mayhem to your opponent (and you) onthe high seas... such as the Jezzail ship, Ratling Gunboat, Lesser Warp Lightning Generator etc If you want to have a look at some of the figs I've made jump across to: http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s96/zak.../Man%20O%20War/ I've finished the collossal rat barge now, but have yet to cast it and I've yet to upload rules and create figs for 3 other designs that I'm working on.... I'll create box proxies for these additions to the Skaven Fleet as well, so you can test them out if you wish... |

I have taken a look in your photobucket account, and you've definitely managed to get me enthusiastic. Seriously, nicely done with those models, as they all look amazing!... How much time and effort does one of those cost someone? (And how much of a convertor/ painted does one need to be, in order to get some decent results). Just out of curiosity and basically a blatant plug ( ), but can I perhaps interest you to write something on (the Skaven) Man o' War for the Skavenblight Gazette webmagazine of the UnderEmpire.net community? I mean, it's not really a widely played game, and some more content on the game is definitely a good thing in my book, to spread some more information on the game. (How it plays, how long it'll take, that sort of stuff).Greetz |

How much time and effort to create? Hmmm, some are definitely easier that others. The Floating nest was actually quite easy - its 2 x 40mm monster bases with modelling clay over the top, with bits then stuck in it (tank turrets, sprue pipework, bits and bobs). The back end 'worky bitz' is a bell tower with the bell removed, then 3 deathburner tops (one attached to the bell tower) and 2 deathburner bases as the paddles. Didnt take long to build or paint. As a caveat I sed to be a GW employee when MOW came out so I bought loads of the figs, so I dont have to go to ebay and spend a fortune to get the figs. I still have unassembled ones that I am working through..... I scratch built the jezzail, but it was quite straight forward, but as I never work on one thing at a time, its difficult to say how long it took. In terms of skill it was quite straight forward - squarish blocks for the habitation, an empire gun for the barrel, a basic hull shape and then a half cylinder with pasticard stuck on it for the paddlewheel. It was more perseverance than skill to do. The collossal rat barge has been ongoing for months, but thats because I do about half an hour on it a week and then go back to other figs (i've just finished a converted Nurgle bloodbowl team and I'm currently working on a plague monk / night goblin converted underworld bloodbowl team), but has needed more skill with the modelling of the rat - I've revisited it many times. The rest of thebarge is straight forward... The base was made from milliput (as it dries nice and hard) and then I sanded it to the specific shape I wanted. I then rolled thin layers of greenstuff onto it so I could make a wood effect. The engine housing was made from sprues and GS. In many ways I have a vague idea of the look I want and then slap things together until it looks roughly as I want. As I want to cast many of them I do have to alter the final product to allow easy flow sometimes, or break it into easy parts. As for writing an article, I'm not averse to it, but I dont know how long it'll take me to do as I dont have that much spare time at the mo... but I will give it a go.... |

*raises two thumbs*... Excellent! ![]() Do you only use Games Workshop materials (well, parts of products in that size, I mean) for your ships, or from other firms as well? Cause if it were the latter, I'd definitely be interested to see what else is on the market (and likely cheaper then eBay). Greetz |

Nearly all the stuff I use for conversion is GW as I still have alot of it from many years ago and its the easiest to get hold of for me.... I'm thinking more and more of completely scratch building in case I decide to see if any small figure company want to cast them. Impact seem to be a good bet at the moment and I'm currently (very slowly) making some dark elf sailed ships to see if they are the sort of thing they'd be interested in..... |

You mean, as in the Elfball Impact! Miniatures guys? They do "Man o' War"-alike casting as well? Greetz |

well Impact were looking at doing a fantasy naval game themselves and were interested in figs for it. This seems to have sunk without trace though, but they would still probably be interested in helping the MOW community maintain other supply lines, so i think, if the figs were good enough / easy to cast, then they would be interested in chruning them out. They have quite agood system as well: http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=sculptor Galak did join the MOW newsgroup and posted that they would be interested - they'd probably get a feel from the market and if it seemed viable, then they would.... |

Well, I know they do casts of tournament give-away models with about 200 models or so (to cover the costs, I assume), so if they'd go the same way with a project such as this, I most certainly think they ought to easily reach that number in sales... With squadron ships in packs of four/ five models, it wouldn't be too hard to find fourty/ fifty buyers, right? Greetz |

Wow, really beautiful work! I am playing a campaign game at the moment and have the skaven (of course) and just sculpted a miniature version of a skaven stronghold/capital. I brought my MOW ships out onto my sculpting table for inspiration. I haven't looked at them in a while and was pretty inspired. The sculpt came out nice - I should post it here. It is in MOW scale, and would make a nice little piece of MOW scenery too, now that I think of it! O.k., I took some pictures and here is my Skaven stronghold (or MOW Skaven island): ![]() ![]()

Two more Man-O-War strongholds to show now (using these for a mighty empires type campaign right now): Here is the Orc capital: ![]() And here is the Empire capital, which still needs its citadel and a paint job: ![]() They are sculpted on nickels, just like the Skaven one I made (in previous post). Hope you like these! |

since we're going to start a campaign as well, i've got a few questions. first i got the idea that you don't have to fight for every piece of land. second, there are many rules about baggage, food etc. etc etc, we've a few new players in the campaign and we asked ourselves: isn't it too hard for them? |
