i'm new to the forum, so what up to all the rats in here. i'm also new to warhammer fantasy and skaven. I bought the skaven army book 2 days ago, read through it, and now I love skaven. So I guess I need some advice on which skaven clan works best for new players. I really like clan moulder and clan skyre, but I hear clan moulder is hard to play because rat ogres are not worth thier points cost due to thier lack of ranks. giant rats seem to be decent and I love the whips, but it seems that it's not a very competitive list. I heard there is a hell pit list (wondering if it is legal in tournaments) but I havent been able to find it in english, despite searching this site for over 20 minutes looking for it... any advice about clan moulder, the hell pit list or anything skaven in general would be appreciated. thanks in advance: ~Kick-To-The-Face~ |

Welcome to the Slaughterhouse Its a good idea to just stick with a warlord clan to begin with as this will let you play around with the different themes of the greater clans, A Battalion box will allways be the best startup deal for a skaven player too |

Build up a decent size warlord clan list (two to three regiments of clanrats, equal number of slave regiments) before you decide on a specific clan. This not only gives you a good base for the other clans, but will provide valuable experience and help you adjust to the magnificently ruthless Skaven way of war. |

A good way to start is a battlion box, nightrunners and a weapon team. that gives you a good clanrat base, and representatives of each clan! Your right in that Rat orges arnt worth their points, but I myself couldnt resist them and use 4 packs often for fun and somtimes even great effect! The hell pit armylist is tournie legel as far as I know. and welcome! :ph43r: |

were you aiming for isn't tournie legal there? Yeah a warlord clan is a good start but the amount of Rats you need can be daunting. try to make up your army in 500pt blocks. It will make things less daunting, and getting some 500pt border patrol games if your new is a good idea. |

Rat ogres are fun! I, however much I love them, have recently found out that, in large numbers, they don't belong in Warband campaigns. For some unknown reason I took 5 rat ogres, in one pack mind, don't ask why. They couldn't move very well, then as part of the scenario 5 knights come in, flank them, moe them down, and proceed to destroy every thing in sight. This was a three way with me against 2 different green-thing armies; one favoring orcs, the other goblins. So yeah they're fun, really fun, but hard to use. |
