Hi, If I have a unit of clanrats in combat with an enemy unit, and a passing Warlock flings in a Deathglobe for laughs, placing the blast marker over the enemy unit and getting say 6 hit, do we randomise the hits between clanrats and enemy or do they all go on the enemy? Thanks. |

Interesting point. In this case, you might want to read more carefully through the Life Is Cheap rule on page 10 of the Skaven armybook. It states there that Death Globes (being template weapons) may be positioned so it hits enemy and friendly models alike. If it does so, the armybook refers to 'Shooting & Close Combat' on page 60 and 61 of the (6th edition) Warhammer rulebook... There, it states that when a template weapon ONLY hits models from the enemy, all casualties are worked out as normal (so no distribution of hits amongst the Skaven). On the other hand, when a template hits both units in that case, hits are worked out as normal and distributed equally to both units. This is however, revised in the 7th edition rulebook. Here, it simply states that the models hit (so not specifically randomizing, but counting those that are under the template) suffer the consequences. So, in your case, the hit are not randomized. Thanks. In a friendly game, if my opponent complained, I might still randomise as it makes more common sense, (chucking an explosive/gas device into the throng of combat), but if I really want to win I'm glad I know the proper rules. I guess it still scatters, so no-one is safe anyway. |

As I understand, it's only the first rank that is randomised anyway - hence why a WLC can shoot through the rear ranks of an enemy unit in combat without hitting your own. |

So if the WLC beam passes through rats and enemy the hits are randomised. It it passes through enemy front rank then hits are randomised, but if only it passes through the 2nd rank or farther then only enemy are hit. What if the Death globe template touches the front rank of the enemy? I would suggest that it doesn't make any difference, but I just want to explore all the possibilities while we're on the subject. So does that mean that a Ratling gun shooting into the backs of a ranked enemy in CC doesn't have to randomise? (I'm guessing this it not true) Cheers |

A ratling randomises hits as normal for shooting, so you can't aim it like that - only cannons, templates and such like do so. For templates in combat, I would say do exactly as normal in the rulebook - which would seem to be that it hits what it hits, like a stone thrower or suchlike. |

As I've already mentioned and numerouno as well, it hits what it hits. There is no randomizing. And numerouno, could you please state the rule where only the first rank is ever randomized? Cause that's something completely new to me. Greetz |

Having checked...I have no idea Very strange...I was sure I've seen it somewhere, but the army book just says you hit what ever the line touches...I must have picked it up of someone else.

I presume that even if the Death Globes template goes over, say, a character in the enemy's squad, to be able to hit the character he'd need to take a "Look out Sir!" test? ...would you take the "Lookout Sir!" test if you got one of your characters under the template? |
