Is there a funny story behind the name of your army? Is it based on a song, movie, or did you just think it sounded cool?

For my army Clan Mutter, I was orriginally planning to call it clan VerminRique (Rique is German for Empire I think... I dont think I spelled it right though) but I figured that name was no good so tried to come up with a different one. I then decided to name it Clan Mutter after the Rammstein Song Mutter. It later turned out that mutter translates to mother... so I am the proud leader of Clan Mother....

My army is named Shinrat, because of a love for the game that the afformentioned company is in. Works out suprisingly well, adding a "t" to make it more appropiately Skavenesque!

It used to be "Clan Derrik", but... nah, "Clan Shinrat" I prefer.

Shennanigans are out of the question!
My renegade Grey Seer, Malsqueek the Clanless, has been exiled (has several assassins after him) from skavendom proper for attempting to make several of the of the council seats available at once.

He now lives on the outskirts of the underempire, hiring mercenary skaven, and taking slaves in little sorties on the surface. The band is known as "The Blighters" or "Malsqueek's Blighters" depending on who is talking.

My Clan has two names, The Frankii and Clan Scarrow.

The first was a mixture of my Username here, and I added the Latin 'ii' sound because I love the way it's pronounced (ee-eye).

I then renamed my clan to Clan Scarrow because I used a random book to place my models on when I took photos of them for my army diary; the author of the book was Simon Scarrow and I thought his surname sounded nice and Skaven-y.

Mutate~ It's spelled 'Reich'. I like Verminreich, however, being German, the pronounciation of 'Reich', /raɪkh/ if you understand phonetics, sounds a bit too much like it should be from the Empire, not the Underempire.

Clan Skrivning. I had a phase where I liked the sound of the word "scriven" a lot, like "scrivening" and "scrivener". Yeah. :P Skrivning was me trying to skavenize the word, only later did I realise I just made it Swedish. :P

The Confederats 'cause I'm quite fascinated by the history of the ACW, there was a guy here who did some Confederate banners for his Skaven a while back, and I'm from the South. :D

bakfire the experimenter
graduate of the school for dangerous inventions
i was trying to come up with a theme for my army something very skaven like and i was considering all the things we do best... i settled on running away and then following that thought through realised that there must be huge numbers of skaven wandering around the world looking for a new home after fleeing from some battle some where and they might just band together...

so i had a group of cowards, deserters, renegades and misfits.. the next thing was to come up with a name for my leader a WE at the time... during my first game he fried himself twice with warp lightning, killed at lot of his own rats when he cast into combat and shot himself in the head with his own pistol, my opponent at the time just laughed and said that all my plans keep back firing on me and so bakfire was named

considering bakfire's complete inability to do anything right i thought he was more likely the leader of a group of misfits banded together for protection the the leader of a band of renegades... so bakfire's misfitz's were created.
Daniel cannot possibly exist in a dimensional state.

Recent studies show that people who have attempted to comprehend Daniel have either disappeared, died spontaneously, or driven themselves into a pertinent state of insanity and/or catatonia.

My background for my army states that my warlord, Azhtabak, only has three claws on his left paw, after losing the other two killing his predecessor. Hence, the clan name - Clan Threeclaws. That's the usual name of my army, but at smaller games I change it occasionally - my Eshin contingent, for example, is the Threeclaws Raiders, which in hindsight sounds like a bloodbowl team...

I used a Skaven's random name generator and split the part of the names that sound good... Then I mixed them and finally choose one ^_^

That's the way that the Clan Gnawkitt was born xD
Also for my characters, I took parts of Skaven names and mix all to get some good candidates :P

well, back in the HotW my army was known as "Cheiftan Cazgar's Sorry Lot" as the fluff backstory was about how poorly equipped they all were and i had to march from cripple peak to skavenblight (i didn't like the fluff idea of a mass skitterleap) which was a bit of an endeavour. it's the first and last time i ever used the name, but if i had to call the army something it's what i'd call it.

my slaanesh army is "the decadent host" as it's in the HoC book and sounds nice and slaaneshi (mostly as it's the description of a slaaneshi army :P) but i tend to call them my wolfmen since i deviated from mortals over to beasts (with wolf heads, so wolf-men instead of beastmen). HoC is gonna be re-written soon, so i'll be able to claim the decadent host as my own invention :P

my undead are bret' themed, so i did call them the army of the red duke (like a vampire duke of bretonnia) as it fits.

as you can see, i either have peck names or i've ripped them straight from GW lol, but they work well enough at the head of army diaries.

I've never named my armies!

That makes two of us...

... And Ritchet, the German word for empire is Reich.

Perhaps Babelfish might be a nice site to add under your favourites. ;)
