Back to retirement!

I posted my alternative Skaven list a while back, but have since made some changes...

Grey Seer w. Tenebrous Cloak, Warpstone Charm and Eye of Horned Rat

Engineer w. kit-pistol, Storm Daemon, Dispel Scroll

Engineer w. kit-pistol, Death Globes, Warpstone *AMULET* (whoops... )

BSB w. HA, War Banner

27 Clanrats w. Command
- Rattling Gun

27 Clanrats w. Standard and Musician
- Rattling Gun

21 Slaves

3 Giant Rat Packs

6 Tunnelers w. Poisoned Weapons

3 Rat Ogres

3 Rat Ogres

Doomwheel

Giant

Now, for those who don't know, the tactic is to jump my Seer and Globe Engineer behind enemy lines and let them run amok there. The idea is to kill of any support units quickly so they can harass the main battleline in peace. I kind of expect those 2 characters to have a short life expectancy, but so far they have caused horrific damage while suffering none in return... With the main enemy line weakened, my Rat Ogres, BSB's unit, Doomwheel and Giant can finish off the main line as they wish...
I'm a bit worried that the list is overpowered a bit in the magic phase. So far it has been a bit too devastating, but dropping even 1 Engineer means it will really loose its punch... I'm expecting my mages to die early on, but it just doesn't happen... They do kill themselves, just much later on in the game when the damage is already been servere...

Any comments on the list? Please do not suggest I make the list more conventional, as I'm purposefully trying something different, as Im sick of setting up 250-300 models each game :P

I think you need more models... :P

Seriously, the list looks quite good. I'm much happier wrapped up in ==My== 100 model security blanket, but trying something different never hurts.

I really can't think of anything besides adding in another unit of slaves, or some cheap disruption units to make it even harder on your opponent after having his specialists decimated.

I forgot to say before, that this list and the slightly different version have won 4/4 games so far, so the list is working rather nicely...

I appreciate the advice, but my lack of Slaves and such units is mainly because I'm trying to keep model numbers down...
A few more elite distruption units would be good, but I really don't see what I could drop in order to fit them in... What units in particular were you thinking of?

Wow, it sounds like they're working quite well for you. I may have to borrow some ideas for ==My== army after I get laughed out of the 'Ard Boyz

Well, from this end, maybe reducing the ROgres unit size to 2 each (or even just 1 unit) could free up points. Some clanrats (why 27, if you don't mind ==My== asking?) could de dropped. A pack of GRats could be axed (since you'll be using them for flanking anyway, rank bonus won't be a huge deal, right?). Heavy armor on the BSB I've always seen as superfluous with Lead from the Back, at least if points are tight. It's not a lot of points, but you could squeeze something else in without too much trouble.

With those points you could go for some star-chucking/sling-slinging Night Runners. Skirmishers, M6, and decent ranged weaponry can go a long way to keep the enemy from marching, messing with his manuevering. Gutter Runners would be more expensive, but poisoned stars and scouts makes them much better in the role. Having scouts in addition to tunnelers and teleporting rats can cause the opposition no end of problems.

Also, to compensate for the low model count, maybe a pair of PWG duets to force deployment from your opponent.

Or you could even go shooty with some Jezzails, though you may have enough armor punching power already.

A small unit of plague monks can dish out a lot of attacks for a reasonable cost. 12 or so, 2 hand weapons, standard and musician only weighs in at 111 points and can dish out 18 attacks, not bad for soft troops and undead or a flanker.

How does that sound?

You're cheating, Sammy. Too many warpstone charms. :P

Glad to hear it's working well for you. :)

Whoops, I typed that wrong. The Engineer has the Warpstone AMULET. I always get those 2 confused!! <_<

The reason the Clanrats are at 27 is simply because thats how many I could afford. I had them at around 25, and then just added a few when I had points left over... No other reason...

As for the other support units, I already have a pack of Giant Rats running around as flankers. I may invest in some Night/Gutter runners for harassment. They seem like a very solid idea, and will really harass the enemy... As for PWG's, Im not sure... I already have a heap of long ranged stuff, and don't need any more anti-armour...
And where to get the points? Rat Ogres do seem the obvious ones, but having 2 units seems to be working well. They're not easily paniced (and most enemy shooty stuff dies early on anyways) and work well as a tag-team with the Doomwheel and Giant... Maybe drop 1 pack for some Night Runners and Gutter runners... But Im not sure, I like my Rat Ogres alot...

Thanks for the replies :)
