True that scriv :P but I didn't think that a slave could cut it.
Ok, I'll compromise - the queen can be a doom-wheel. Powerful but still expendable. And it can run over pretty much everything.

That would be one big chess board...

Just like with a real skaven army, deployment would be a pain! There's just not enough space :P

that seems like an interesting set up for a VC chess set but, I would use zombies instead of skeletons for pawns. Pawns tend to be the more mindless expendable piece so zombies would fit it better and plus you might confuse your pawn for a rook if you use skeletons leading to a nerd fight.

IF I used zombies they would only be able to take a piece in one diagonal direction which would always be the opposite to wherever an enemy piece is. Skeletons look a lot different to Wights anyway.
And just when you thought the Clanrats might win the day, someone reminded you oto fire the Ratling Gun...

What a great topic idea!

After due deliberation I'd decide to go for;

Pawns: Clanrats (life is indeed cheap)

Rooks: Rat Ogres (devastating when they get going)

Knights: Assassins (their unusual board movement represents the jinking runs of the Eshin)

Bishops: Plague Monks (keeping the religious theme)

Queen: Vermin Lord (most destructive piece on the board, avatar of the Horned One!)

King: A Grey Seer or Warlord (as losing this in WFB terms would be practically game over anyway)
Grey Seer Skritchit
