The Psychotic Bouncing Rat
|
I got a really geeky thought today, what if you used skaven for chess? I could just immagine the littlebuggers going across the board. I think itwould probably go like this King: Warlord Queen: Chieftan Bishops: Grey seers (or plague monks) Knights: StormVermin Rooks: Clanrats Pawns: Slaves (or maybe giant rats) What do you think? |

It's a neat Idea, however I don't quite agree with your choices for positions King: Warlord Queen: Grey Seer Bishops: Stormvermin Knights:Gutter Runners Rooks: Rat Ogres Pawns: Clanrats I can't see a chieftan being more powerful than a Grey Seer, Storm Vermin are bodyguards so it suits the Bishop's position, Gutter Runners tunneling unerneath lines to pop up later, Rat Ogres as something that can do significant damage, and keeping the slaves in the mines, use clanrats as the basic warrior. I think it would be better to stick with standard sized models. Rat Ogres are much bigger and I've found that a pain in the past. Plague Priests as bishops make sense and seems obviously. That leaves us open to put Storm vermin as Rooks, as the most heavily armoured models in the skaven army they make sense as Castles. Gutter Runners or Assassin as Knights is a great idea and makes perfect sense. King: Warlord Queen: Grey Seer Bishops: Plague Priest Knights:Gutter Runners Rooks: Storm Vermins Pawns: Clanrats |

I did an oversized tyranind version once... King - Hive tyrant Queen - Zanthrope Bishop - Raveners Knights - hormagaunts Rooks - Carnifexes Pawns - spore mines had to custom make a board big enough to fit them on |

Daniel cannot possibly exist in a dimensional state. Recent studies show that people who have attempted to comprehend Daniel have either disappeared, died spontaneously, or driven themselves into a pertinent state of insanity and/or catatonia. <img src="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/adoptables/23041.gif" alt="Broken Adoptable Image" /><br><a href="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/levelup/23041-dark-whisper.htm" title="Level up this Daemon!">Level up Adoptable!</a> | |

I remember seeing a chess set using rackham models, or something like that. I've thought about this before, though using rackham models (my warhammer models would go into a WHFB army, I don't play confrontation so they can go into chess). The dwarves of mid-nor have an amazing model that's a walking castle tower, the best thing for a rook. |

Made of 110% Skaven!

I would go for King: Grey Seer Queen: Warlord Bishops: Plague Monks Knights: Assassin Rooks: Storm Vermin Pawns: Clanrats Grey seers are really the tops, being above warlords in the peck of things. There being fewer Grey Seers than warlords would make them a bit of a more vital objective. Plague Monks are more of the bishop types, and have their own maddening ideas on where to do, good for the diagonal movement. Assassins take things in an indirect route, sneak around the back or side, good for the odd movement of knights. Storm Vermin are really the straight forward kind of guy, the real heavies. Clan Rats are the tossers of the army, just above the slaves in the pecking order, I'd fit them more for pawns. Though slaves would work well, the rules for getting to the other end of the board would fit a clan rat more ("You succeeded in the mission, you get upgraded!"). |

I think my Chess set would be somthing like: King: Warlord Queen: Grayseer Bishops: Plague Monk W/ Staff Knight: Plague Censer Bearer Rooks: Storm Vermin Pawns: Clan Rats I like trying to keep it to just 2 heros / Lords. Just seems right |

that seems like an interesting set up for a VC chess set but, I would use zombies instead of skeletons for pawns. Pawns tend to be the more mindless expendable piece so zombies would fit it better and plus you might confuse your pawn for a rook if you use skeletons leading to a nerd fight. |

Aha, but even the queen is expendable, if the exchange is worth it. ![]() Besides just using WH models, could we incorporate WH rules as well? Like, to capture a piece you need to roll to hit and wound?

True that scriv but I didn't think that a slave could cut it.Ok, I'll compromise - the queen can be a doom-wheel. Powerful but still expendable. And it can run over pretty much everything. Later! 'Sticks |
