Hi, i was thinking about using chaos with my skaven, they did it with orcs, why not the ratmen, I decided on a tzeentch theme seeing as skaven love magical things the idea came from the legendary battles rules allied units in white dwarf 340 and also that i got the oop model ikit claw and i thought what if he led an expedition into the chaos wastes and of course chaos thinking it might be a laugh to watch promises the ratmen tzeentchy power, so stormvermin are the equivilant of chaos warriors with mark of tzeentch and then maybe use a unit chaos warriors for allied units but heroes don't take lore of tzeentch they use the lores they have Because they worship a different god to other skaven if a battle is between two skaven forces both forces hate each other |

You could always have Tzeentch masquerading as a tie-dye, 9 headed rat-bird to appear as an incarnation of the Horned Rat (the eternally scheming part) and the Skaven being tricked into following him. Why? Exactly |

In the old old days of allied contingents I always fielded plague monks and censer bearers alongside my Nurgle demon army oh and a chaos sorcerer in chariot pulled by 2 deamon beasts of Nurgle, boy what fun we had before they got rid of the 25% allies rule. Not certain how the marks of chaos work or cost now but can't see why any Skaven warlord wouldn't have a 'dogs of war' marked skaven unit along as a rare choice? |

Tzeentch allows an extra power dice per unit with the mark, for more info you can find it in the Hordes of Chaos armybook |

In the Moulder Pitfight webgame, there where a skaven Tzeench-cult ruining the arena at one of the tournament. Perhaps you could play a tzeench cult army? Just run it as a usual one but with Tzeench banners and a wizardrat

I've conviced myself this would be a suitable use for my second stormvermin unit. Years ago I brought the old models and started painting, never finished. Then, even though they are a 0-1 unit and I hadn't finished the old ones I brought the new ones cause they were new shiny and had heavier looking armour. There in a box somewhere not even undercoated. Now this idea comes along and suddenly it all makes sense; this was the reason I brought that second unit. Stormevrmin make so much sense, the last remaining remnants of a skaven army foraging in the chaos wastes and perverted by the dark lords. I'll give them the regimental mark of Tzeentch and the good old Blasted banner just got to decide on how to convert a Skaven Chieftan marked hero of Tzeentch now mail order has gone. What am I going to use? Suggestions? |

Is this just a one unit, in an already existing army or just showcase? Or are you starting a new army? |

It will be just a single unit attached as a 'Dogs of war' like regiment, but is very much a plan for the future as have a lot to do on my regular skaven armies first, wll about 3.5Kpts and 300ish figs. Haven't even found the 'new' stormvermin in parent's attic yet. |

Not to put a damper on an otherwise great idea, but the unit would essentially be a house rule. The way dogs of war work is that there are specific regiments you are allowed to take. In friendly games it might work but even then, I don't know how I'd treat that unit even if someone mentioned it to me beforehand, mostly due to balance issues. Skavenblight |

You're right the way I have twisted this thread has most certainly shifted it into houserules but I don't think it fair to skiterleap it as this was not the originators intention. I don't know that much about Tzeentch now so difficult for me to decide if its balanced or not, the marked chieftain would replace a Skaven character and sensibly could replace an engineer which would resolve some balance I think. Anyhow I wont have this done until long after the new deamons and chaos books so everything will change by then which is after all the way of Tzeentch dark god of entropy. Well not unless chaos marked Skaven comes up as a painting competition theme. More of a concern to me is it makes use of some nice figures I otherwise can't use, Stormvermin being 0-1, but rumoured that will change with Skaven 7th ed? Also most people are agreed Stormvermin as written arn't too great and oportunity to have a regimental mark would make them both more colourful, interesting and questionably useful. At a cost of 380 for 20 w/shields, musician & Blasted banner they work out none too cheep and detract from horde tactics. It's a sort of lets play at being high elves without the arhery and cavalry sort of thing? Not certain what I mean by this?? |
