Well I get the feeling I'll be facing a good amount of magic, as one of my main oppponents is a Vampire Counts player. I'm kind of torn though, thinking of going with a more magic defense route with two Warlocks and a Warlord, or a more balanced approach with an army led by a Grey Seer.

The Warlord's extra point of Ld would definately come in handy when facing the Undead, but then again so would the Grey Seer's magical prowess. So....I'm a bit stuck on which route to go for.

I suppose I could eventually try both out, and mix it up a little now and then. However, any of your thoughts on the matter would be very much appreciated!

Okay, well I've been working on what my Grey Seer would look like if I did end up going that route, and this is what I've come up with:

Grey Seer-
Tenebrous Cloak
Eye of the Horned Rat
Warpstone Charm

So, taking his points into consideration and adding them to my current total, that would bring me to 1814 points. Doesn't leave me much to play with, really.

So I'm wondering if my above Grey Seer build is effective in your opinions. And, if so, what should I add/add to to take me to an even(or close to even) 2000 points?

Well I decided I'd have a go at making a 2000 point list using a Warlord, and see what I could do with it. I thought I'd post it here instead of making a brand new thread. Let me know what you think of it, and whether or not I'm on the right track.

Must have missed the Deacon, good thing you have him :P

For your Grey Seer, just add 25 clanrats (standard and musician) and 20 slaves to fill out the last 180 points :P

I use a Grey Seer ==Myself== (on a Bell no less, mostly due to a lack of models but also due to it's awesomeness) and with him, the Bell, and an Engineer, magical dominance is quite easily achieve by tossing out 10-11 power dice (8-9 without the Bell). All Skaven spells are extremely useful, check out the Grey Seer thread in the War Room to see how people are using theirs.

However, the Warlord List looks nice too. You get the ever useful Tunnelers and another Engineer can help against enemy magic and can dish out pain on his own. I don't think you'll need the BoP though, you could probably get away with just him, drop some claw leaders and get a unit of nekkid Night Runners to block LoS to your Monks to keep them from running off at the first enemy they see.

As for Vamps, don't be intimidated by all those power dice. The only spells you need to block are Van Hels Dance Macabre (moving in the magic phase) and Invocation of Nehek (only on certain units, the ones you've got in combat or severely depleted). Also any really damaging spells, but that's normal.

Your 2K list looks good Skrost. My only advice would be to drop the warplighting cannon and use the points to expand your clanrat units to 30 each, 25 is too small in a 2000 point game.

Your proposed Grey Seer equipment is excellent by the way.

Excellent, thanks again for all the help guys. Okay, so I'm on the right track with building upon this army, and that's all I'm really concerned with for now. I'll concentrate on the 1500 point force for the time being, and make it as effective and good-looking as I can.

I'll use my experience I eventually gain with the 1500 point list to help me decide on a Warlord or Grey Seer, as it seems that either choice will heavily affect the way my 2000 point force looks.

Okay, and 29-30 Clanrats per unit in 2000 points. Check;)
