First of all, hello everybody (this is my first proper post) Me and a friend are going to enter a doubles tournament, he's introducing me to warhammer. He's doing orcs and goblins and I'm doing Skaven (as if you couldn't guess) O.K. here it is, and don't hold back, I need to know where i go wrong. Warlock Engineer with all the trimmings and a storm daemon 110pts Another Warlock Engineer with all the trimmings and a storm daemon 110pts 31*x Clanrats full command and ratling gun 240pts 10x Poison Wind Globadiers 100pts 10x Night-runners Slings 90 Warp-Lightning cannon 100 Total= 750 on the dot * I had 5pts spare so I added another rat |

First of all, welcome to the Under Empire. As far as your list: I would strongly advise against taking two warlocks. One warlock and a chieftain would be superior because of the chieftain's improved leadership, and better reliability (do not miscast/fry themselves like warlocks). With one warlock all you need are the warp blades and the condenser, and storm daemon. The pistol is a waste of points and the accumulator is only necessary when you have more than one caster. For future reference the equipment on your warlock engineers is illegal. Since storm daemons are arcane items you can only have one in your entire army. Dispel scrolls and tokens would be useful replacements. You definitely need more clanrats and slaves, they are the core of a skaven army. Two regiments of 25 clanrats and two regiments of 20 slaves would be ideal. To get the points, drop the WLC. The warlock and ratling gun will provide plenty of fire power. A unit of three giant rat packs or a small regiment of plague monks would be superior to the 10 globadiers, you have enough anti armor with a warlock and a weapon team. Nightrunners are best when fielded in units of 5-6 to avoid panic tests on friendly units. Two units of 5-6 with extra hand weapons or throwing stars (7 pts each) are very effective in smaller games. |

Is this the Nottingham or Wakefield Doubles you're going to? (assuming you're in the UK) I'm headed to Notts with a similar setup this year, my partner is also bringing goblins - we plan to see if we can do more damage to ourselves than our opponents can do to us. We may see you there! The extra leadership if your chieftain ends up as the general will be useful, as this year O&G and Skaven are 'Distrustful Allies' - meaning -1 leadership if you're within 6" of an allied unit. On such Low LD armies - that hurts. (the 2007 pack had the armies down as trusted allies - no additional rules). Of course, I'm taking a single warlock and no chief - as my partner is bringing a gobbo shaman and boss. I'd be inclined to try and fit in 2 units of clanrats, so you can split the globadiers into 2 units. And as mentioned, your warlocks are illegal, as you can only have one stormdaemon. If your partner is also taking a mage, I suggest giving one of them the eye of the horned rat instead, to give you a bit more casting power without hogging all the power pool dice. Good luck at the tourney... but not too much of it if we end up playing each other

Thank you for the advise. I'm going to the tournament in Nottingham one so I'll hopefully see you there. And I'm going to try and get a revised list up by tommorow |

Much better. My only recommendation is to include a cheap chieftain, the extra leadership and reliability makes a huge difference. I would advise dropping 6 plague monks and the champion from your plague monk unit. This would allow you to get a chieftain with heavy armor, shield, and a great weapon or halberd. In such a small game, 14 plague monks (fielded 7 wide by two deep) provides plenty of killing power against low toughness and armor save troops, and the champion is unnecessary because the unit has no hero leading it. Placed in the front of the clanrat unit with the champion, the chieftain will provide valuable kills against your opponent's rank and file troops, and the champion will protect him from challenges. |

I like it! Do you know what your compatriot is bringing to the table? If he's not bringing a wizard of his own, you could get away with casting on 3 dice without generating any spares. If he is bringing a wizard, try and free up the extra 15 points for kit-no-pistol so that you stand a better chance of making the 9+ cast on warp lightning. Pilgrim, bear in mind that a second character might not be possible in the doubles army as the 1-3 hero, 2+core 0-3 special and 0-1 rare restrictions are split between the two players (with each player force needing 750 points consisting of atleast 1 general-capable hero and 1+ core units) Slanty - we are ticket number 22 (our rules pack arrived on Thursday - I was kind of fast off the mark on ordering the tickets!) |

Ok, first of all thanks for the advice, it helped a lot as you can probably tell. Second of all I might try the warlord, I might not, I'm going to do some playtesting with both before I decide. Thirdly my friend pulled out so I may not be able to go but I will try to find another gaming partner before then so I will hopefully be going but at the moment it doesn't look to good as I only have one other friend who does an army the can ally with skaven. |

I just found out the only other person I know who plays warhammer with an army that can ally with skaven is getting married the day before the tournament which is annoying but I might as well complete my skaven force. p.s. the person I am talking about is an older cousin, he's not just marrying really young. |
