Finally, my friend and I have managed to get the time and the models together so that we can go to Doubles this year (after 2 failed attempts) I'm taking Skaven, he's bringing Night Goblins. We don't plan to win, we plan to see whether we can kill more of our own troops than the opponent can by the end of the game or not. To this end: His list is basically 2 large (40, I think) blocks of goblins with 3 fanatics a piece. Block of 20 gobbo archers. Boss (bound spell of some sort?) Shaman (a dispel scroll and mushrooms, iirc) And 3 special slots worth of Squigs (though I don't know what that means) My list, as it stands, is: Warlock, sans pistol + Storm Daemon 110 2 x 25 Clanrats with full command and ratling guns. 420 2 giant rat packs (unsure whether to run them as 1 or 2 units at the moment) 60 8 night runners with extra hand weapons 60 and a WLC Any thoughts or suggestions on my side of things? I realise it's quite zappy, but it's not certain that I can finish painting in time otherwise. Not sure if I like the night runners or not, pondering switching for rat packs or something (bearing in mind I have no spare special or character slots to play with)? |

Slaves would be more beneficial than the warplightning cannon, as you will have plenty of range with the two ratling guns and warlock. As far as your friend's army, a elite force of orcs (black orcs, savage orcs, boar boys, etc) would likely complement your army better than goblins. |

I think if I suggested to my friend that he do orcs instead of goblins (and the attendant squigs + fanatics which he spent an obscene amount of time converting and painting) I would have a riot on my hands... I quite like the random aspect of the WLC, as well as the model (also I'm not sure I can retain my sanity painting too many more rats right now), though I'm tempted to trim down the night runners and scrap the unit champions in favour of a block of slaves and/or some globadiers. Any thoughts on that? |

Yeh, I dont see him changing goblins for Orcs here! Nor should they, Goblins are great fun, and along with Skaven are the most comical armies out there. A great match up in my opinion!! To this end you are going well. Both armies have alot of stuff that will kill friendly models as well as the enemy!! I really respect this plan too. Play for the fun side of the game rather than winning. I wish more gamers were like this My only suggestion for change would be to get some slaves in there. They are great for suicide runs, and will make your combined army a true horde! - Sammy |

I worked out that I can claw back 80 points - Is it worth losing the nightrunners in favor of a block of slaves and 2x2 globadiers?

Certainly get the unit of slaves. As for the globadiers, cheap units of nightrunners would be more useful, as a unit of 2 globadiers will cause no damage whatsoever. |

I've settled on a list for now (nearly finished painting it, too!) Warlock - 110 Kit sans Pistol Stormdaemon 2 x 25 Clanrats - 280 Banner Musician 2 Ratling Guns - 120 21 Slaves - 42 5 Gutter Runners - 97 (I think?) Tunnelling Warp Lightning Cannon - 100 Aided and abetted by: Goblin Boss, (some sword with +1s, a, ws or somesuch) (ring with bound spell of 'Eadbutt) Lv 2 Goblin Shaman 2x Blocks of goblins (30's I think) 3 fanatics each 10 squig hoppers 10 (or 15 - forgot) strong squig herd I managed to convince him to squeeze together his hopper units so that I could take some gutter runners - mainly to take out war machine crew and lurking mages. Aiming a fanatic unit at any heavy calvalry should (hopefully) make them run around the long way to avoid the gobbos, or if they choose to charge in anyhow - hopefully maim them enough to blunt the charge so that numbers can win out. Ratlings and Warplightning should be good for most other troops WLC for sniping characters, as well as the bound spell on the Gobbo Boss Slaves should be nice cannon fodder - not sure whether to deploy 5x4+1 or 3x7, so I guess that I will take 2 movement trays and choose on a game by game basis. 6 Power Dice, 4 Dispell dice, 2 bound spells between us - we've got a fairly decent magic phase (especially since everything is quite destructive) Things I'm worried about are Dragon Mages, Steam Tanks, big blocks of Knights (more likely than the first 2). Any thoughts? |

Your list is quite good. Suggestions: The gutter runners are worth 85 points, not 97 (assuming you only took poisoned weapons, which is all they need). With two weapon teams and a warlock, you have plenty of shooting. Dropping the cannon for some support units to support your clanrat blocks would be beneficial. Another unit of slaves would certainly be helpful. You could spend the rest of the points on nightrunners (incredibly useful, especially in smaller games) or giant rats. |
