I need help on using slaves. at the moment i put them in 2 ranks of 10 and use them as a missile screen ( i normally play against dwarves and wood elves) I hide important units behind them, but they last 1 or 2 turns at most, panic then leave. it does stop my units getting shot though. latley i have put a warlock in my clanrat unit so he needs line of sight, hiding is not an option. my plague monks do take a battering when in the open but frenzy means they dont panic and the slave screen stops them from being led away by fast cav i cant seem to goad my oponent into charging the slaves. any help ?? by the way i at the moment only play at most 1000 pt games |

Getting dwarves to charge slaves probably isn't going to happen. Remember that he doesn't mind it at all if no CC action happens, he's winning on the stuff he's blasting with his guns. First step to getting dwarves to charge your slaves is getting rid of all his shooty stuff, which is easier said than done. ![]() What I do is I run my slaves straight on the dwarven line while my clanrats go for the sides. What you're after is a situation where the dwarves can't turn away from the slaves because then the slaves will get them in CC, and they can't stay like they are because the clanrats are going for their sides. Against heavy dwarf shooting this might not work so great though, because by the time your slaves reach, they'll be cheddar, 10 left out of 20 in each block or so. At that point they really stop being a threat. You'll need some tunnelteams or a stombanner to remedy this, and try to target as much of your own magic and shooting as possible into the dwarven guns. ![]() As for the wood elves, this really depends on what you're playing vs. Against dryads and treekin it's usually not so hard to get them to charge, just place them in the way of things and threaten with jezzails and magic. Against heavy archery they're probably not going to charge, but a fully ranked slave bunch can take on some of those pantsy elves no problem. Just run them straight for their lines in large groups. ![]() To sum this up, no one is going to do something that changes the game if he's already winning as it is. There has to be some incentive to charge your slaves, and it usually is: A: If I don't charge the slaves, they'll kill something! B: If I don't get into combat soon, the magic and shooting is going to kill my dwarfies! It's not always dwarfies of course, but you get the point. ![]() Since you're already using plague monks, you could try the umbranner on that unit and run straight for the thunderers/quarrelers. When you get there he's going to want to charge that unit with his big hitter blocks, use the slaves to get in the way and protect your killer unit. ![]() I hope that helps some! |

I don't know if slaves are your answer here. Certainly they are our most multi-purpose unit, but in this case you may want to look into giant rats and night runners to get across the table FAST and into the flanks of these dwarves. Besides, if there is a 90 point unit surrounded by two 50 point units on the side, they will probably be less interested in your big blocks of scary stuff. At that point, the slaves will be insurance for your big blocks. -R |

well for one you could increace the size of your slave units, there cheape enugh when naked. adainst dwarves who wont chardge, ive got this freind who plays dwarves and one of the things he fears most in the skaven list is pwg. so what you might try is a few small units of them gaurded by the slaves, that might goad him into a chardge. another thing to think about is you can put your warlock in with the pwg, give him deathglobes or (evil grin) a brass orb. charde with your slaves and lob into combat, itll make him think twice next time you play. brass orb is evil against dwarves as at most they got i of 4, it can rip the heart out of an ironbraker unit. |

Why Does Rice take on Supersonics? We Choise to go to the moon. We choise to go to morselibe and do the other thing. Not because they are easy. But because there is much much warpstone! Warlord Kennisqeak`s address to the student warlocks at rice academy, skavenblight | |

I keep 'em in 5x4 and within the leadership bubble of my general until they've goaded a charge or walked them up to an easy-to-kill unit or a lonely warmachine. --Cap |

I send 3 units of 30 slaves in front of my batlle linen, next to them of afther them i take a 4 units of clanrats also of 30. The 90 slaves on the table are a 180 points. !!! The enemy must do something and he will go for the slaves because thats all he can attack or charge. This will keep him bussy and you have the outnumbering, the clanrats are 120 models. That is 210 models for 165 X 4 = 660 + 180 = total of 840 points for 210 models thats the skaven way, life is cheap, out numbering. |
