Ratswarms; Question

the plague monk

My armybuilder program tells me i can only have one unit of ratswarms even when i have 2 units of clanrats to act as mainstain.

Is there a rule i'm forgetting? I do not read any of this in the army book of rule book so in my opinion i can take 2 units of rats swarms when i have 2 units of clanrats.

There is a 0-1 limit on Rat Swarms, it says in the core units section. Also I think this needs to be moved as it is in the wrong section.

You can only have 0-1 unit of rat swarms in the army, regardless of how many clanrat units you have. Sorry ^_^

Yeah, army builder is good for most things, but don't assume that anything you build on it will automatically be legal. For tournaments and even for regular gaming you should take the time to pen and paper it at least once to be sure.

...you can still call me Rusty Tincanne if you want, though.

This may be obvious, but don't forget that you can have more than one base in that unit of rat swarms, which how they work best, anyhow.

Yea, I personnally think one unit is enough. Although these little buggers are weak, they can be a pretty nasty thorn in there side when you tie up one of there powerful units with multiple bases of unbreakable things with 5 attacks and wounds each. Plus plague swarms are expencive but from what ive seen from playtests, very deadly.

Back to retirement!

@ Warlord Ritchet: Now that 7th edition has been released, Rat Swarms are no where near as good as they were in 6th ed. Now they (and all swarms) crumble in a similar manner to Undead if they loose combat, so charging Rat Swarms in against a ranked enemy unit is not a good idea, as they will just collapse after 1-2 rounds of combat... Now they are not worth their points and probably won't be worth taking until the new Skaven army book is released...

All hail the Age of Skaven
I still take poisoned rat swarms for the sole purpose of taking single terror causers like giants.

:o Plague Rat Swarms are perfect anti-giant... things! In this role, if you know you'll be facing a giant... taking two swarms is actually not a bad idea... despite the costs.
