Hi-Hi fellow vermin:P ,

Im new to this forum and was hoping you guys cuold help me out.

I have been playing warhammer for a couple months now. I started with a Bretonnian army but fancied a change of style. (Wasn't having alot of luck with the Brets  )

I will soon be playing my first game against high elves  And was wondering what kind of army composition would be best. He only has 1000pts so that would be the size of the first few games.

I have:-

1 assassin
1 plague priest
1 chieftan
120 clan rats/slaves
1 w/f thrower
40 plague monks
20 night runners
2 rat ogre packs
4 giant rat packs

He has the basic battalion box with an extra 16 spearmen.

I know I need to go for big units to win by CR. But what would be best? With the clanrats I was thinking 30 with spears. Will these help? And the plague monks' 1 unit of 20 with additional hand weapons, led by a Plague priest. But would I be better of with out the extra weapons and just taking 10 more instead?

Should I bother with the Rat Ogres? :rogre: I know I need something to stop his Silver Helms. But will infantry blocks be enough to do this? As I expect my ogres will end up as pin-cushions.

Also with only the w/f thrower my shooting phase will be fairly non-existant. Should I equip some NR/Slaves with slings? Or is this a waste of time?

Tactically I was thinking of screening my monks and clanrats with units of 20 slaves. Then sending the giant rats up the flank to take out his RBT. Then generally just crashing in to him in a wave of fur. But would he just shrug this off?

Sorry for all the questions  , but there are just so many options!!

Thanks for any advice.

I reckon you are thinking along the right lines: take lots of troops, which are not terribly susceptible to missile fire, and advance quickly. You still dont really want to enter any fights head-on, so use stuff to bait and flee or redirect to present his flanks to your main combat units. Of course, he'll be trying to avoid this, which makes the game interesting.

I suspect that the advise you seek is less overall tactics (you've covered that in a very generic way) but more along the lines of specific army building advice. We have a forum for that too :)

BTW no need to shout. Care to think about using a more conventional font size?

Don't use spears, the usually aren't worth it.

The best way to deal with any cav, ogres or other hard hitting unit with little to no static combat rez, is to use your slaves to get them in a bad position. Get them in the way and angled to lead the silverhelms or whatever else where you want, when they charge, you flee, but make sure oyu are close enough so they catch you. That way you know EXACTLY how far they are going to go. and have your unit of clan rats ready to flank charge. 1 silver helm with 1 STR 3 attack isn't going to make up the 6 combat rez you bring to the party with a flank charge from a block. Neither is one Dragon prince, one Ogre, one Minotaur... I think you get the idea.

Ahh thanks everyone. I will take my questions to the army list forum you speak of.

I would not use the assassin, as he is overly expensive. I would use the chieften as a battlestandarbearer and the plague priest as the general. You have no magic. I would consider picking up a warlock engineer.

I would also use large blocks of clan rats, slaves and monks. You might consider one unit of night runners with 2 hand weapons just to protect you from light cavalry or skirmishers which try to get around your flanks or rear.
