Shennanigans are out of the question!
Has anyone ever run Blocks of Giant Rats (3 packs) with little detachments of them as little flanking units?

Essentially one big pack, followed by one 2x pack, or two 1x packs to be used as fast flankers for the big block.

I'm trying out a 3x and a 2x with a master moulder with the Things Catcher to see if that would be a scary enough side for the "denied flank" tactic which has worked pretty well for me.

For 267 points total, its attractively priced, especially with the re-roll leadership.

Yes :)
I'm glad to see someone else realizing the flank-holding power of the Master Moulder with fast moving ranked Moulder units. Just make sure you have enough units of clanrats to allow you to have all those units of Giant Rats (look at the Mainstay rule).

Ultimately, it will only be 2, maybe 3, UNITS of giant rats.

I'll post a list later today once I'm done Tweaking it, which will probably be my final "what works for RC list".

Back to retirement!

I havent as yet tried it, but I'll be eagre to as I have a large Moulder contingent in my army. The tactic should work well, but wouldnt it be better with Clanrats as the center unit? I mean the Master Moulder is fine to stop panic, but when combat sets in he is only there for the kills. Wouldnt it be more effective to have a 25 strong clanrat unit with 2 2packs of Giant Rats on the flanks? It'd probably be a tad more expensive, but the staying power would be greater (Im just musing here, I havent tried this or even worked out the points for this. Im just thinking off the top of my head...)

Either way, Giant Rats are always great flankers, and I'd like to try out a Master Moulder more often. I generally dont find the Hero slots available though, with the Warlord, BSB and 2 Engineers... I've tried with only 1 Engineer and got smacked in the magic phase... Maybe I should try a Seer, BSB, Engineer and Master Moulder for this tactic...

Been looking at the Empire army book now have we? :P

Sounds like a great idea to me, in fact I've never even heard/though of that. And you could charge with both the Clanrats and the Giant Rats against a single enemy unit since the rats have 2" more to charge and maneuver. Seems like it would work to me.
