Ok. So I'll be playing against lizardmen for the first time tomorrow. I've got a pretty good grip on how our rats work, as well as the Brets, and Wood Elves....

If you could only tell me one thing about fighting Lizardmen, what would it be?

It's often worth buying small skirmish unit to pop behind your lines, to stop chameleon skinks setting up behind your army.

Kroxigors can charge through skink-screens! Good to know. :)
I'm preparing for my first lizardman match myself, I'm quite convinced I'll take a whipping but atleast I'll be learning something. ;)

Ready.... set..... SACRIFICE!!!!!!!!

More than ever you'll be sacrificing units, and not only the slaves, since many lizards will ignore your slaves. (Don't listen to me, I am relatively new to the skaven.)

With the low initiative (but high S & T) of the Lizzies, a hero with a brass orb gives you 1 chance (50% minus scattering) to really mow the reptiles.

Take at least 2 (preferably more) units of night runners with 2 hand weapons and use them to counter his skirmisher skinks.

Skirmishing skinks will make short work of your weapon teams and are the bane of ranked units when they wish to march.

Use the nightrunners to force the skinks away from your ranked units and in combat they will masacre them. ;)

Saurus - Surround them! Straight up fight is a no no.
PCB's work VERY well against them. ;)

Wish I could plot like you can, you must have a mind like a corkscrew to turn all those scheming corners

Night Runners are amazing. They will cut Skinks apart. :P

Lots of slaves! Lots and lots. :D You need them badly for outmaneouvering purposes...

Take out the Skinks early, and be careful of Kroxes and Saurus.... ;)

General tips:

  • Eliminate their support troops
  • Never engage Saurus/Krox without support
  • Apply liberal use of Warplightning to take away at least a rank before engaging
  • Nightrunners with XHW are pretty good Skink slayers
  • Sacrificial Monk units are also good to hunt skinks , terradons (keep them cheap, with Mus but no banner!)
  • PCB's rock :censor:
  • Try to get 1 or 2 characters with a decent strength weapon to get through the Krox or Saurus tougness and skin. (Weeping blade is pretty good, as is a Priest with flail)

I told him next time we play I am fielding one General and 12 blocks of 20 clanrats with attatched ratling guns.

Last time I faced Salamanders, I threw up the Storm banner and they ran away after causing the loss of 2 slaves... I would have felt sorry for him if Kroqgar hadn't squished my army like some kind of scary squishing machine.

They're a lot like ratling guns, only they have:

move and fire
2 s5 attacks each... (and extra attacks from the skinks)
three wounds, T4. With a 5+ Save.
ablative wounds (known as skink handlers)
Fear
6" move
no real danger when misfiring (just loose a couple of skinks)
And they count as a separate deployment choice.

Downside is their attacks are only S3, and they take up rare slots. (1slot/3lizards)

Best part? Cost five points more than a ratling team.

I may have forgotten something, but given how people react if you field 6 ratling guns in a 2000pt game, I'd say 6 salamanders is pushing it a little. ;)
